He's Got It All,

This review is from: The Humour Is on Me (Audio CD)
This disc was recorded in 1999, I can't believe I'm the first person to believe in it's greatness.Ronnie Drew sings the songs on this disc with sincerity, soul and heart. This isn't your top 40 b.s. pop tune album, after all this is Ronnie. Granted, the songs here aren't grab a pint and singalong with the crowd type songs - but they are without a doubt the truest of "drinking songs". They won't be repackaged and sold at discount prices as "Have an Irish Party" that's for sure - but they're so full of emotion, so full of truth, that you're sure to be moved. I'll admit that I bought the disc for "The Dunes" - quite possibly one of Shane MacGowan's greatest songs (which he gave exclusivly to Ronnie for this album), but hearing each of these will make you breathe deeply realising the power of the music you're hearing. After decades of hearing my favorite recording artists' solo albums, I'm naturally skeptical, but this one - this album, it delivers more than you can even expect. Ronnie Drew's capable of a lot more than the diehard Dubliner's fan can even imagine and this album proves it.

The wonderful Ronnie Drew,

This is one of those rarest of things - a perfect album - so full of humour and poignant honesty it quite takes my breath away. I bought the album for its title track but all of the others are also delivered by Ronnie as only he could. Someone once described him as having a voice that sounded like a bucket being dragged over a concrete floor (a description that Ronnie himself relished) but those not afraid of uniqueness will prize his clarity and love of the material. I couldn't give this album less than 5 stars in a fit.
