1.0 out of 5 stars Widely reported problems - zero interest from Humax. Look elsewhere, 8 Feb 2008
As with other reviewers (& widely reported elsewhere on forums), there is a problem with this box 'locking up' & becoming unresponsive. At present I have to re-boot & return to default settings every 5-7 days. Another reviewer reported, in line with my experience, that problems begin with Channels 7 & 9 (BBC 3 & 4) - the picture loads a little more slowly than usual, and there is no accompanying sound for more than one-two minutes. Other channels quickly follow this pattern & the box then becomes completely unresponsive. At this point one has to unplug the unit from the mains & re-set to the unit's default (factory) settings. Very unsatisfactory & time-consuming, especially on a regular basis.

There is also a problem with the EPG as reported elsewhere - detailed, descriptive programme info is only available in the first few hours after first switching on the unit or after returning the box to its default settings. Thereafter, pressing the 'Info' button brings up an empty panel on screen. I have raised this matter with Humax &, according to Humax customer services themselves, this problem arises because the unit has insufficient memory to store both the EPG & detailed programme information.

I have contacted Humax a number of times about these issues in the hope that they have a 'firmware' upgrade available to fix these issues - here is the most recent response from Humax on 05/02/'08:

"There are currently no fixes for this and we do not yet have a release date of when one may be available."

I find it astonishing that this product is still available for sale as new - I believe it has been on the shelves for around more than 2 years - without any attempt by Humax to rectify any of these widely reported problems. I consider the product 'not fit for purpose' as long as the above problems persist.

It's possible to purchase a perfectly good, value-for-money Freeview box for under £30 which will deliver good picture quality & basic functionality. Buy something at this price-level & upgrade in a year or two if you need to - the many extras that the Humax box claim to offer, including the over-the-air upgrades, are not worth the extra cash. Moreover, the unit comes with problems that the manufacturer shows no interest in resolving. My suggestion - avoid this item, save yourself some money & buy elsewhere.

5.0 out of 5 stars Excellent set up box, 28 Jun 2007
I bought for my dad to replace poor Bush smaller freeview and this Humax set up is so easy to installation, I just put the plug and switced on as it set up itself and picked up all channels (no need to use Booster), pictures are excellent, no blocks or anything, it so smooth and colouful also 8-day listing as well, when switch off then you see the clock on the LCD.

3.0 out of 5 stars Great box, but no EPG Information, 7 Dec 2007
By Fat Stuff (England) - See all my reviews
Very good quality picture, good channel capacity, and a good EPG planner, but...

...I got this box in June (2007) and noticed that after a couple of weeks the programme information dispappeared. I contacted Humax who said they'd broadcast a fix in August, which they didn't. After chasing them they then said sometime before Christmas (and so far no fix, there's a few weeks to go I guess) - looking on the Internet this problem has been around since early 2006, so I'm on Amazon buying something else now!

If they ever bother to get the EPG Information working it'd be 5-star, but as it was the rave-reviews of the EPG that persuaded me to get it I felt disappointed by it.

5.0 out of 5 stars my second and very much better choice this time
This box, while not really looking 'high tech', is full of extra features, making viewing and programme tracking a real pleasure. Also the epg feature is excellent. Read more
