Humanity is Bleed From Within's third release and first full-length album. Although the band is young, they have a clear handle on their sound and direction. The music is a combination of At The Gates-style riffing, Meshuggah-esque grooves, and early Lamb of God rhythmical dynamics. This foundation is glued together with death metal drumming, supplemented by the catchy sonic quirks and riff endings pioneered by The Faceless.
The whole album is done with the utmost professionalism and understanding of the influences that are being used. One is left wondering however if Bleed From Within intend to add their own flavor to things down the line or if they are content with following in the well trodden footsteps of their predecessors. Either would probably be fine with their fans, as Humanity is a good album regardless of its level of originality and stands up as a contender in any professional market.
The audio production on Humanity also deserves mention. Unlike many new bands emerging from digital-based studios, Bleed From Within have harnessed a sound that straddles the fence between organic, live sounding tones and mechanical madness. Many bands could learn from the compromises made here to find a healthy middle.
The main drawback on Humanity would have to be the shriller high screams employed for approximately half the vocals. More akin to black metal, these seem to detract from the style the band is going for. They do however fit quite well when doubled with low growls and appearing lower in the mix.
Bleed From Within is a great choice for anyone looking for brutal yet catchy metal that allows for multiple enjoyable listens. A sinister, serious tone is set right from the get-go and is maintained throughout. Especially great to listen to while driving or working out!
