5.0 out of 5 stars What a treat! 25 Mar 2012
By Omnes
Inspired by a DC Comics called Human Target, Jonathan A Steinberg offers us a variation of this series. In his show, Christopher Chance's job is to protect his clients from any threats (direct or indirect) not by taking the identity of his clients, but instead by using a fake identity which will allow him to immerse in his client's life. Along with his colleagues, which consist of Winston, an ex-detective, and Guerrero, a hacker-hit-man from Chance's past, each episode involves a different client and a new identity to adopt during the course of this twelve episodes season. Although some people complained about such a short season format when they would have preferred sixteen or twenty three episodes, the chosen length didn't bother me at all. As long as the scripts and visual effects were in great quality, I didn't mind watching a short season action show.

The only things that did annoy me however were the times I managed to glimpse a Canadian post truck and letterboxes in episodes that were happening in San Francisco or in New York. Not only that, at the beginning of the fourth episode, there is also a helicopter shot of that french-Canadian monastery, and by judging the architecture of the building and the mountains, that shot seemed to have been done not in Canada, but in a Californian location. So that simple detail reminded to me that this episode hadn't been shot in that province, and it broke the illusion of the episode. Apart from that, I am amazed how the Vancouver visual artists did a good job in their computer graphic effects, especially in the second episode with that airplane and in the sixth episode with that skydiving introduction. As for the orchestral soundtrack, it is excellent and makes the opening credits, and Chance's missions, epic and unforgettable.

I love this series and only wish that us UK bods could get Human Target Series 2 on DVD as well! They were fools to stop making further series.

5.0 out of 5 stars Superior action series 24 Sep 2012
By Steven TOP 500 REVIEWER
With an extremely charismatic lead, genuinely entertaining plots and a very healthy budget, this punched a hole into the rather stale TV action genre. The weekly adventures were varied and offered the viewer rich pickings in terms of settings and story. Kudos to Mark Valley (surely a shoe in for Jack Reacher) for pulling off the wounded hero role without an ounce of cheese, he's an athletic fellow who delivers the goods in both the acting and action departments. The scripts were devilishly comic at times and the cast interactions between Mark Valley and Chi Mcbride as Winston were first class whilst their sidekick Guerrero is possibly one of the most interesting characters to come out of TV in an age! The cameo's are wonderful, Lennie James is particularly good. The lead character has a really decent back story as does Guerrero, their devious and delicious interplay creates an interesting story arc which supplements each weekly adventure towards a finale which ties together many but not all of the arc plot points.

3.0 out of 5 stars Action man as bodyguard 23 Aug 2011
By Amazon Customer TOP 1000 REVIEWER
If your life is in danger, Christopher Chance and his team might just be your best hope. He is a problem solver specialising in hopeless cases and one that doesn't ask too many questions either. With his partners, ex-police detective Winston who acts as co-ordinator and all-round office guy and even finds his way to the field when necessary (clue that would be most times as it doesn't very often go exactly according to plan), and tough and ruthless computer wiz, Guerrero, he charges head first into every crazy situation he can dust up to save (mostly) strangers' lives.

The action scenes are obviously important in this series and it's full steam ahead for most of the episodes and very well done. The interaction between the three original team members works really well too and there is even room for some humour and MacGyveresque antics to get them out of the particularly sticky situations.

Something that doesn't work so well are his romances. He is way too plastic fantastic in an action man kind of way to show much emotion and with his mysterious past where he was obviously burnt badly, he becomes quite one dimensional as the lonely wolf hero type. But other than that a cool series that is well cast and has some great action sequences mixed with humour and decent storylines. 3.5 stars

5.0 out of 5 stars I loved Human Target 8 Sep 2014
Format:DVD|Verified Purchase
I loved Human Target, so much so I appeared to have ordered it twice! It's slightly disappointing that there aren't many episodes in the first series, especially as the second series does not appear to have been made available yet. I wish it had been a UK release but this was from France, even so it's not dubbed (or if it is, there is the English sound track as an option).

Come on guys, though, bring out series 2 as a small mercy to those of us who wished the series would continue!

5.0 out of 5 stars Great series. 11 July 2014
Thank goodness they put this series on dvd. I hope they second series will soon be released. Another very watchable series with great characters and action. Mark Valley is so under rated and should be in more movies as he is very talented. Good transaction with the seller, no problems. Thank you.
