Product Description

Product Description

Human Resource Management, 9th Edition continues to present both the theoretical and practical aspects of HRM. The theoretical material is presented throughout the textbook and highlighted via a marginal glossary. The practical aspects of HRM are presented through lively and pedagogically effective examples woven throughout the text and in the end-of-chapter materials. The new edition reflects the challenges of diversity, technology and globalization in the business world in general, and how these forces impact the HRM function within organizations.

From the Publisher

Diagnostic Model organizes the text. The design of the book is largely based on four basic phases of the diagnostic model of human resource management. The major sections in the book examine these phases and discuss the major human resource issues involved.
International issues and examples woven into every chapter. No other HRM text includes international similarities and differences to this extent. Both authors are well-known for their international expertise, having conducted research and exchanged views with HR managers in Australia, central and western Europe, Asia, and Latin America.
"Your Turn" exercises. Short, real-life human resource problems found at the end of each chapter, the Your Turn exercises provide an opportunity for students to develop their decision-making skills.

Global issues and examples woven into every chapter. No other text includes international illustrations of similarities and differences.
Up-to-date use of the World Wide Web integrated throughout text. Including directions to key HRM professional sites, and suggestions for Internet class exercises and/or demonstrations. New box entitled "Exploring the Web" makes the material easy to find.
"What Do You Think?" boxes. These boxes pose thought-provoking questions for students to ponder.
Chapter 6: External Recruiting. Reflects the latest developments using the World Wide Web to hunt for jobs, and the latest data on the growth of contingent workers.
Chapter 9: Internal Staffing and Careers. Includes the latest guidelines on the "new" careers, including the concept of careers as development, rather than simply upward mobility, and the emergence of the self-reliant employee.
Part Four: Compensation. These chapters, loaded with international examples, give an overview of not only "how" practices differ, but also "why." New information on variable and team-based pay plans and controlling labor costs are included.
Chapter 16. This NEW chapter provides a historical view of HRM, completely updated coverage of HR information systems - including the Internet - and a summary of the emerging "high-flex" human resource profession. --This text refers to an out of print or unavailable edition of this title.

Human Resource Management textbook 4 May 2009
By C. Williams - Published on Amazon.com
Format:Hardcover
The textbook is ok as far as college material is concerned. Not much difference between the 9th and 10th edition which was disappointing. Text book companies just trying to make a buck off college students.

Provides a good starting point 18 Dec 2006
By Leah D. Simmons - Published on Amazon.com
Format:Hardcover
This text provides a good starting point. More focus on memorization of "facts" with some practical real world application. Could have a better focus on implementation methodologies. For the most part clear and concise. An easy read. Fine for a quarter based college intro to HR class. The apsiring HR maven would need additional materials including better training in methods of application/implementation. Better than most texts in this area

This book was a necessary purchase for a class that i have been taking. I think it is organized well but tedious to read.
