Review

The real life examples, quotes and case studies, together with the reference to the web-site links, will undoubtedly help to enhance the suitability of this text to a range of courses.  I will certainly recommend this text to my students.
Kirsten Krauth, Coventry Business School, UK

I have used this text over many years, both in the UK on undergraduate and postgraduate programmes and overseas on MBA programmes, and have come to rely on its comprehensive mix of academic and practical insights into the world of HR. It is easy to follow, engaging in style, and keeps the reader’s interest up.
John Martin, Fellow of Hull University, UK

The structure of the book invites the student to elaborate self-steering learning and “ learn to learn” .

Product Description

As competitors strive to win the war for talent, effective human resource management is necessary to gain true competitive advantage in the marketplace. Three challenges companies face are sustainability, technology, and globalization. Human Resource Management 7th Edition brings these challenges to life by highlighting real-world examples pertaining to these issues and relating it to the concepts within the chapter. This best-selling McGraw-Hill/Irwin Human Resource Management title provides students with the technical background needed to be a knowledgeable consumer of human resource (HR) products and services, to manage HR effectively, or to be a successful HR professional. While clearly strategic in nature, the text also emphasizes how managers can more effectively acquire, develop, compensate, and manage the internal and external environment that relates to the management of human resources.

a classic 7 Feb 2009
Format:Paperback
I have used this book during my undergraduate and postgraduate business + management degree.

It is of such depth and clarity that I almost needed no other sources for most of my essays + exams. The recommended readings are all essential, the theories mentioned more up to date than most other textbooks in the field (and I have looked at quite a few during my courses) and the structure + examples are very relevant.

It is definitely better than Beardwell's or Marchington's textbooks, and only matched by Bratton + Gold's textbook (which has a stronger practical focus I find but does manage to put theories into a broader context sometimes).

This is one of the best textbooks I have used during my academic career.
