Product Description

Review

'One cannot but applaud Epstein's energy in writing this book, and Cambridge University Press's skill in presenting it so pleasingly.' Journal of the Royal Society of Medicine

'… the author achieves his goal of filling a niche for molecular biology textbooks that lucidly integrate the molecular basis of disease with clinical applications. This new text is clearly distinct from most molecular biology textbooks directed toward true students of the field.' Gastroenterology 2004

Product Description

Human Molecular Biology is an introduction to the molecular basis of health and disease for the new generation of life scientists and medical students. By integrating cutting-edge molecular genetics and biochemistry with the latest clinical information, the book weaves a pattern which unifies biology with syndromes, genetic pathways with developmental phenotypes, and protein function with drug action. From the origins of life to the present day, a narrative is traced through the workings of genomes, cells and organ systems, culminating in linking of laboratory technologies to future research horizons. Lavishly illustrated throughout with two-colour diagrams and full colour clinical pictures, this text brings the complexities and breadth of human molecular biology clearly to life. This seamless account breaks through the boundaries between molecular biology and medicine, and leads the reader on to a new dimension where the biological basis of health and disease is inescapably molecular. Human Molecular Biology scooped both the Richard Asher prize for best new textbook and the overall 'Medical Book of the Year' in the Society of Authors and Royal Society of Medicine Medical Book Awards 2003.

I enjoy reading this book - I'm taking biomedical science, concentrating on molecular cell biology (and microbiology) and find this book to be a great resource - fills in the clinical side of things which other greats (which are concentrating on yeasts and Drosophila) don't.
If I had the time, I'd read it cover to cover. I certainly intend to, after I've finished my course!

Awful! 13 May 2008
Format:Paperback
I am a physiology student and I took this book out of the library to aid my understanding of various topics but found it actually did the complete opposite - it confused me no end!
The way in which it is written is completely illogical and makes simple concepts seem unclear, and the headings make it very hard to find the information you are looking for (though most times I found it didn't even exist!).
Overall, if you are looking for an 'introduction' to molecular biology - do not buy this book!
