Biography

“I’m pleading as you’re leaving/I’m begging you to stay/I’m not the man I used to be/I’ve changed.” “Away in Silence”

Five years ago, Wind-up Records recording artist Creed disbanded in what turned into an acrimonious split that left lead singer Scott Stapp and the rest of the band—guitarist Mark Tremonti, drummer Scott Phillips ... Read more in Amazon's Creed Store

Amazon.co.uk Review

Creed burst out of Florida with 1997's My Own Prison, a dark but commercial debut reminiscent of the early-90s Seattle sound. Creed's moody guitar grunge and ardent lyrics, coupled with singer Scott Stapp's passionate vocals, helped My Own Prison sell millions. Human Clay demonstrates that this likeable quartet hasn't messed with success; they turn in a sophomore outing rife with evocative moodiness, soaring guitars and a dark, roiling, intense vibe. "Beautiful" is but one of the winners on this strong 11-song CD. Haunting and indeed beautiful, the track is more delicate and seductive than most heard here, as is another lilting and mysterious entry, "Never Die", which boasts some Middle Eastern accents. "Higher" is typical Creed--safe, emotive guitar rock for the masses but with a slight edge. Memorable hooks, Soundgarden-like guitars and Eddie Vedder-like vocals make Human Clay at once compelling and effectively redundant. --Katherine Turman

5.0 out of 5 stars Creed show undoubted quality 8 Jan 2003
Format:Audio CD
I came across Creed at the recommendation of a friend and have not looked back. The music is hardly the most cheerful at times, but offers a rousing rock music style that you can both sing along to and listen to quietly.
Human Clay features some good tracks, and the voice of the lead singer is unforgettable, and at times haunting. Songs like Higher and Arms Wide Open are warm and rousing, and then there is the more agressive style of What If which proves a difference that is easily recognisable, and adds great variety to a well-balanced album.

5.0 out of 5 stars Quite simply....Buy it! 7 Nov 1999

I'm sure when reviewing 'Human Clay' I could have used all the hackneyed phrases that journalists turn out on demand when going about their daily toil. The fact of the matter is though that this is basically a very, very good album. Sure you could mention "Vocals that soar like an eagle.....etc" but that would be missing the point. Scott Stapp can sing and the rest of his comprades can play, it's that simple. Think of Eddie Vedder from 'Pearl Jam' and that give you an idea of Stapp's vocal style. Again think of 'Pearl Jam' and 'Soundgarden' and that will give an impression of the heavily guitar influenced sound that backs the vocals. The outstanding track on the album for my money is 'Higher.' I bought this album and the previous album 'My own prison' on the strength of this one track. Other high points are track 3, 'Beautiful' and track 2, 'What If.' If guitar based rock is your thing and your looking for some new stuff to check out, get hold of some Human Clay and start modelling!

This cd was recommended to me by a friend on the basis that if I wanted an album heaped with glorious tracks I would not be disappointed. I was anything but dissapointed! Right from the very first track the power of the voice and cruching overdriven guitars, which are so beautifully controlled, take you off into a rock fantasy. The contemplating chorus of 'What If' is the first sign that this album is not just good but leaning well into a genial class. The standout tracks in my opinion,(and that of many others), are without doubt 'Higher' and 'With Arms Wide Open'. Both with anthemic qualities without bowing to commercial ideals. For me this cd just makes me want to hear more of these gloriously constructed melodies and the sickening musical presence ensures that I will seek to gain the full live experience. Exellent!!

5.0 out of 5 stars Sheer brilliance from start to finish! 4 Dec 2004
Format:Audio CD
This album is by far my favorite of all time. In terms of guitar players, in my eyes Mark Tremonti has to be up there with Van Halen, James Hetfield and Zakk Wylde. What I love about Creed is that they simply write fantastic songs. Human Clay kicks off with the ultra heavy 'Are you ready', but there is also the beautiful ballad 'With arms wide open'. Ohter highlights are 'Inside us all', the uplifting 'Higher' and the ferocious 'What if'. From start to finish this album is vey strong. Scott Phillips on the drums is a solid, heavy hitter and it comes through. Brian Marshall holds the bass down giving the beef and complementing Mark Tremonti's awesome tone perfectly. To top it off Scott Stapp sings with pure feeling and emotion. Bottom line this album proves why Creed were at one point the biggest band in the U.S.

5.0 out of 5 stars sheer brilliance packed into one handy disk! 15 Oct 2000
Format:Audio CD
I first heard this band in America when my friend showed it to me and i was hooked. i bought this CD in America and when i got home i didn't stop listening to it. If you like this then you should also look at a band called 3 doors down, they are on tour with them at the mo. This CD offers such a good range of styles in rock and then you have the ballad "With Arms Wide Open" which is great even though that it isn't their normal music. After listening to this album, i bought the second from here and am not disappointed, with What If on Human Clay a song for Scream 3 and What's This For on My Own Prison (their second album") for Halloween H20, they obviously have a talent good enough for films buy this album.

5.0 out of 5 stars Creed Rock you have got to get this album! 29 Oct 2000
By A Customer
Format:Audio CD
The first time I heard Creed was on the Scream 3 soundtrack, I thought they were great so I went out and bought their albums. My Own Prison, their first album is great but Human Clay is Excellent as soon as I played it it blew me away. It blends great music with mature and impacting lyrics. The best songs are probably 'With Arms Wide Open' which is about becoming a parent and how much your life is going to change, and 'Higher' which is about heaven and what it has to offer. It was hard to choose the best songs as they are all brilliant. If I was you i would get this album it is one your cd collection is crying out for.

This album Rocks!!! I first heard Creed on the Scream 3 soundtrack, so I went out and bought both albums. The first is great but 'Human Clay' is far superior. The album is full of mature and impacting lyrics combined with heavy rock music. All the albums songs are great and the best of them are 'With Arms Wide Open' which is about becoming a parent and the song 'Higher' which is about heaven. So far this album has stayed in the top ten of the U.S charts for about 56 weeks, so obviously lots of people like it. This is an album you need to get.

5.0 out of 5 stars PLAY THIS ONE UP LOUD! 30 Sep 2000
Format:Audio CD
This album is immense! As soon as the guitars start you know you're gonna love it! I first heard 'Higher' whilst on holiday in Florida and it became a bit of a holiday anthem. Now that I am back home I have let all of my friends hear it and they are all fans now too!
Each song on the album has such meaning and the vocals are just wonderful. It is a must for any CD collection. If you like rocky sounds with loud vocals, then this is the album for you!
I cannot wait for their new material!
