5.0 out of 5 stars Hulk smash!, 18 Jul 2007
By J. Berry (Maidstone, England) - See all my reviews
(REAL NAME)
Sent to an uninhabited world by the 'heros' of earth, the hulks ship crash lands on an alien gladiator planet by accident. This leads to 15 isuues of Hulk based mayhem and carnage, the writing by Greg Pak is superb, as are the illustrations. I could not fault this Marvel hardback and could not put it down. I highly recommend to all fans of the 'Jolly Green Giant.'

5.0 out of 5 stars The Greatest Ever Graphic Novel?, 1 Aug 2007
By Alan Youngman "ArtistAlan" (Yarm, Cleveland. UK.) - See all my reviews
(REAL NAME)
Every once in a while a series of comics comes along where everything just comes together, with the artwork and the writing both of exceptional quality that it deserves to be made into a 'Hardcover' presentation, and 'Planet Hulk' deserves this and more. I have to say first of all that it is best if you read the small graphic novel 'Prelude to Planet Hulk' beforehand just to help with the build up to this amazing piece of work.
The story begins when a group of 'Superheroes' who call themselves 'The Illuminati' decide that 'The Incredible Hulk' is too much of a danger to the human race, and his rampages are putting too many lives a risk. They devise a plan to send him into space to an uninhabited planet where he can be alone and hurt no one, but things don't go as planned. I will mention nothing else about the story simply because it would spoil it for you.
Greg Pak who wrote this epic has to be the greatest comic writer find of the last five years, and the superb artists who put his words into pictures have created a stunning visual treat that will simply amaze you.
I cannot recommend this book highly enough, it is a comic masterpiece that will be talked about for years to come, and the best thing of all is that the story is still going on this summer with 'Marvel's' 'World War Hulk' storyline!!!!

5.0 out of 5 stars All Hail The Green Scar, 12 Mar 2009
I used not to like the Hulk. Always thought he was a non-character, just someone who grunted, screamed and broke things. Then I read some of Peter David's run on the hulk and loved it.
Then I stopped, prefered reading the X-titles.
Then I went back to The Hulk a while later, and stopped after a few months.
I then stopped reading the Hulk, no longer thought about him.
Then along came Civil War. Bought the graphic novel, wondered where the Hulk was.
When I found out that the "good guys" thought that Hulk was too dangerous and launched him in to space.
Wwwhhaaaa?
This I have to see.
So, waited until p[ay day, and got my grubby mits on it.
Extremely good.
One of the reviewers here said that it was the greatest. May not be the the greatest (Dark Phoenix by a long shot), but it's up their with the best of them.
Greg Pak hows that he he wrote with a long story mentality. Not only dropping him on the planet, but giving him no way back.
Pak writes a Hulk out of water yet still in his element. He introduces us to an alien world, compleat with history and various unique races (along with the return of The Brood and Death's Head.... kind of). there's a great prosession of new characters who you can;t help but feel for.
I think that was the main thing that got me about this story, I cared about the characters and felt that connecion you need to get into the story and hold the reader.
There were moments of the story where I grinned and fought the urge to punch the air. Very few graphic novels make me feel like that.
The fact that Greg Pak has gone out of his way to make his planet a real as he can shows this book was a great labour of love, and a story that had to be told.
As for the art, I Love it!
Crisp and polished, giving Pak's alien world glorious visuals and the best hulk I've seen since Gary Frank and Dale Keown. It's not angular, it's not being edgy, it'sbeing very honest and is just purely great art from all the names involved. The pictures make it a comfortable read. You end up hoping that the Hulk's stay on this planet won't end.
But it does.
Abd then comes World War Hulk.
Can't wait.

A must for Hulk fans and one for those who think they don't like him. Afte reading this you will

Hulk has got to be difficult to write, the very nature of the character is great but potentially limited. Read more
