I hadn't encountered Wizz Jones before, although I knew that he had been a influence on (relative) youngsters like Keith Richards and Eric Clapton. This is an intimate live performance to be savoured, as Wizz pulls out a variety of songs - self-penned, classic blues and nifty instrumentals - for an invited audience. The guitar is great, as is the banjo. At times (and this is often the case) the British blues singer's vocals don't quite match up to the originals . . .but in any case, I would heartily recommend this for anyone interested in acoustic folk-blues, or indeed in English contemp. folk songwriting. Four-and-a-half stars, I would say. Thanks to Ian Anderson of fROOTS for the recommendation!
