I completely disagree that this not a beginners book. I was terrible with languages at school and buying this book was my last attempt at trying to be good at speaking something other than english!! I found the pronunciation guide at the beginning very clear and from that I could speak just about any spanish word if I saw it written down. The grammar rules are taught in easy chunks and although it takes a few days to get your head around each concept, but by following the course as advised in the weekly plan by the end of the week you'll be surprised at what you have achieved.

I bought this book in 2002 and used it to learn Spanish. 5 years later with OU Spanish Diploma, I still use it. It is by far the best book I've come across for learning Spanish from scratch.

I found this course in my Mother-in-laws house unopened, and wanted to learn Spanish so borrowed it, and I'm only week 1 but I find it very interesting and I'm learning a lot. I agree that the English is very particular in wording but I think that adds to the professionalism of the book. I like how I am learning the correct way to speak and can read Spanish words and know which sounds to emphasize. Buy this book if you want a good grounding in Spanish and want to learn the right way.

Not A Beginners Choice!!
I have used various Spanish courses and I can speak fairly good Spanish but this book is about the worst I've seen labelled as a "Beginners" book. Read more
