I was really looking forward to watching these dvds but they wouldn't play. They aren't for playing in the UK but I didn't realise this when I purchased them - it wasn't really clearly marked and not something I would look for when buying a dvd from the UK. Disappointing purchase.
The first thing to say is that this Hugh Grant collection is Region 1 encoded so you will need a multi-region DVD player. Although the blurb on the cover describes these films as comedies, An Awfully Big Adventure is very much a downbeat drama. In the other three films, Hugh Grant plays his usual bumbling stuttering persona but in An Awfully Big Adventure he shakes that off to give a fine performance as an overbearing theatre director in post-war Liverpool.
I am not actually a great fan of Hugh Grant. I bought this set mainly for Big Adventure because to date a UK DVD is still not available. Anyway, I feel sure that fans of Mr Grant will relish the chance to buy this collection.
