1999 was a rather varied year for the pop charts, a fact that's reflected by the diverse collection of songs on Huge Hits 1999. In addition to the requisite amount of straight-ahead pop (Britney Spears' "Baby One More Time", B*Witched's "Blame It On The Weatherman"), there's some indie (Catatonia's "Dead From The Waist Down", New Radicals' "You Get What You Give"), some soul (Lauryn Hill's "Ex Factor", Whitney Houston's "My Love Is Your Love"), some dance (ATB's "9PM Till I Come") and some Tom Jones ("Burning Down The House"). For pop fans, this compilation has a little bit of something for everyone. --Ted Kord

This is a great collection of smash hits from 99! I love compilations because you get all the hits without the album-fillers and at a super-value price. This is one a good compilation which I have the pleasure of owning. It's great because of the huge variety of styles included: Pop - Westlife, S Club 7, Steps, Five, B*Witched... Dance - Shanks & Bigfoot, ATB and the infectious Onephatdeeva... R&B - Destiny's Child, TQ, Glamma Kid, Jennifer Lopez + the ace Armand van Helden & Indie - Manics, New Radicals.

Some of the highlights of the album include Eiffel 65 with the best-selling Blue (Da Ba Dee), Will Smith, Armand van Helden, TQ and ATFC/Onephatdeeva. Ricky Martin's excellent no1 is here too which is really nice 'cos it didn't make Now 44 (the Now series is my definitive source of hits).

Ironically, the biggest-seller of 99, Britney Spears' Baby One More Time, is missing, but that's great as it was the pits! Even if you liked it, you can't complain because the catchy 'Sometimes' is there instead. However, going back to my previous point there are only actually 8 of the top 20 songs of the year on here, and with fillers like Lauryn Hill and Barenaked Ladies, you can't help feeling they could have done a better job.

The layout of the CD is great - the first CD has almost all the pop and indie, whilst the second has all the R&B, dance and a bit more pop. This saves you having to swap the discs all the time.

Overall, this is definitely worth buying but probably isn't the ONLY compilation you'll want from 1999.

Comparisons:
Huge Hits 1998 - Great but the 99 version is better.
Now 44 - Actually better but it's great if you have both as Now 44 gives a great bundle of hits from the end of 99 and Huge Hits gives you a tasty spread of hits from across the year.

This album is cool. The first c.d. is excellent with a really good mix of songs. However the second c.d. lets the whole album down. However this could just be my own taste in music but I just didn't like the choice of songs on c.d.2. C.d.1 is the dogs b***ox though, absolutely brilliant.

This CD is really cool because then if you want something with say Westlife, B*Witched and most other groups then you don't have to wait till you have enough money to buy each groups album you just buy one album with the best groups best hits on it. Best of all you don't even have to leave the house to get it.
