I bought the Hubsan Q4 after owning a Hubsan X4 for some time and being totally hooked on the mini/micro type quads. The Q4 comes supplied with everything you need to get started excluding 2xAAA batteries for the transmitter. Charge time is around 10 minutes using a USB port on a powered device (PC, Console, Phone adapter, etc) and gives around 5 minutes of flight time from the 100mah 1s battery.

The Q4 is bristling with LEDs with blue used on the front and red on the rear to help out with orientation. The supplied transmitter is minuscule and may take a bit of getting used to for anyone with larger hands. To give you an idea of exactly how small it is for anyone who owns the Hubsan X4, the Q4 transmitter easily fits in between the hand grips on the X4 transmitter, or to put it another way, its slightly larger than a credit card when held like a playstation/xbox controller albeit much thicker. Even using the supplied transmitter this little quad supports dual rates which you can switch between by pressing down on the elevator/aileron stick in the same way you can with the X4, but it only has trims for the elevator and aileron and not for the throttle or yaw. To be honest you wont miss it on this little guy.

The supplied manual (leaflet) contains everything you need to know about trimming and resetting the gyros to obtain level flight but you only need to follow this process if you have to give some stick input to keep it level. Mine was ready to fly right out of the box and didnt need resetting.

If you own a Hubsan X4 then you can use the X4 transmitter with the Q4 which makes flying it a darn sight easier (well it did for me) and also allows you to turn off the LEDs if you really want to.

The Q4 is a fantastic introduction into the world of rc quads and rc flying generally. It is very tiny. I had researched it in detail before purchasing and seen some pics, but I was still struck by just how small it is!

My experience of flying the Q4: It flies very well, I've tried it indoors and out. Inside I've practiced taking it off and landing it on various platforms. Cereal and tissue boxes have been pressed into surface as landing pads, as has a coaster. I'm not that great yet, but practice makes perfect and it's really fun trying! Outside I have flown it during the day and at night. (Only in the garden when there was 0 wind) Outside you can truly let it show its power. I zoomed it up and down the length of the garden at an incredible rate!!! It also climbs impressively high. I got it as high as our two story house before getting nervous and bringing it back down to my height. Flying it at night the super bright LED's come into their own. They light up the garden surprisingly well and make it look like you're flying a UFO! The downside is that when it flashes to let you know you're battery's only got a minute or two left. Then the strobing LEDs can be a bit disorientating (one to bear in mind if you intend to fly in the dark).

Robustness: I have tried to be careful, but occasional crashes are inevitable. I've dinged it on edges of things a few times with no ill effect. I have crashed it hard enough to remove the propellors a couple of times too, once into a brick wall with a zix foot drop onto conrete.... a propellor came off and that was the full extent of the damage. Propellors coming off (if you crash hard enough) is not a problem, they pop straight back on and you're flying again! (that is if you don't loose them, they are tiny after all...

I think 4 stars is the right rating for this product. It is cheap, the company I bought it from (wirelessmadness.co.uk through amazon) had excellent service and is definitely for beginners!

It is a lot faster than you might thing, you only need about 1/3 of throttle to gain altitude and indoor flight is so easy once you get used to it. Obviously due to the weight of the quad it doesn't do well in heavy winds but with practice you should be able to control it outside even with some winds. Comes with extra propellers which is excellent and spare batteries are very cheap to buy and very easy to swap in and out the product.

However, the quad is very fast and if you happen to hit something hard at full speed then something is likely to break although the quad is extremely durable for something of its size.

This is my second nano quadricopter. I was trying to remove a propellor from the first to fit a propellor guard when I pulled out a motor snapping its connections and pulling one of the wires out of the motor.
So this is the second nano copter I have bought. I have all the other Hubsan quadricopters so I was able to use one of their full size controllers which makes it much easier to fly. It is a shame they do not sell just the nano quadricopter. The mini controller is much harder to use. Using the larger controller I found the nano a bit harder to fly than the normal sized Hubsan quadricopters. I have ordered a propellor guard form Israel (16dollars proto x), look on Y-tube to see the options for propellor guards. I do NOT recommend the V272-09 propellor guard for the Hubsan nano. So the nano does not come with a propellor guard or a spare battery. You charge the battery while it is in the nano. The battery is not easily removed so the advantage of a spare battery is reduced. There is a small on/off switch near the charge point. The on/off switch is not mentioned in the instructions. There are spare propellors. If you new to quadricopters I would recommend you buy the normal sized Hubsan X4 V2 as it is easier to fly, its not much more expensive and has a full sized controller. Also you can easily change the battery and buy cheap propellor guards.
