This product looks and feels good and works well initially. My only complaint is that in less than 2 years of moderate use it has failed due to a weak plastic hinge mechanism on the trigger. This is the same problem that I had with its cheaper plastic predecessor. I'm now looking for an all metal version of something like this.

Over the years I have gone through many hose guns. Often cheaper ones bought from supermarkets. Thise year my supermarket all plastic hose gun succumbed to the frost. My mistake really but the gun was rather tired and clearly not designed to last more than a year or two. As such I decided to get a metal one and opted for this one to go with my hozelock hose.

The first thing you notice is the gun is well constructed and feels solid. It has a number of spray modes (think it's 8) which should satisfy most people's needs. I opted for this over the one with 14 modes, which was a bit excessive in my mind but each to their own. As mentioned the gun is solid and appears well built. The grip is nice in the hand and it has a catch for continuous water. The head is plastic but also looks well built. I noticed the difference straight away from my old one in that the spray selector feels solid and turns nicely.

Overall an excellent gun which feels as though it will last a good while. And although initially apprehensive about spending soo much on a hozegun it would appear to have been worth it. Just don't leave it out in the frost like I did... :-)

[...] Any queiries please leave a comment or contact me.

    Update: March 2013.

After almost dead on 3 years my watering gun is still going solid with no complaints from me. During the winter I take it and the hoze inside my garage to protect against frost but other than that it has been left to the elements. Still happy with my purchase.

The body of this spray gun is metal, making it look tougher than other models, but the trigger mechanism is still made of plastic. It failed after 6 months of use, and is now permanently in the 'on' position. Might as well buy a cheaper model and throw it away when it breaks.

I am very disappointed with this rose head. It has only lasted about a year before the return spring on the trigger has failed, so that it no longer cuts off the water supply when released. The only way to stop the water is to go back to the tap and turn it off from there. Far from ideal if you're at the end of the garden. I had hoped that the more expensive option would be better quality but the previous all plastic version I had was much cheaper and lasted a lot longer

I have been through 2 of these guns now. They work a treat when they are working but I found if you drop them on the floor and the metal dents you cannot get nozzle selector to turn, which means it is unusable. Its a bit to expensive to be tht fragile if you ask me. A good product for someone who does not use it much.

Like several of other reviewers I too, in the past, have owned a number plastic versions of this type of watering gun and have been let down by triggers that stick, or connectors that have a very irritating leak. This metal constructed Hozelock gun not only feels comfortable in the hand but is very sturdy and durable, showing no sign of wear and tear despite being dropped and dragged along the floor when recoiling my hosepipe after use. It has never leaked even when, under high pressure, 'clicking' the gun off to stop watering.
Fitted with eight spray patterns you will have no problem finding one that is ideal for the kind of spraying you wish to achieve. I personally find the Jet, Shower, Centre and Mist versions fulfil most of my needs and changing between them is simply done with a quick turn of the nozzle head.
With a name like Hozelock you know you are purchasing a quality product that should not fail you. I am well satisfied and have no reservations in recommending this particular watering gun to others who are viewing it.

*******READ THIS IT MAY BE OF BENEFIT******* bought two of these - one for my dad and one for myself - both broken with same fault - the trigger breaks meaning you cant turn it off. dads lasted 11 months and mine about 15 months. When I get a spare minute I will perform a post mortem to see if its crap parts or crap design. not cheap to buy with such little use. SUMMING UP - NOT FIT FOR LONG TERM PURPOSE.
    30April2015 I added :-
I now revise the above - I contacted Hozelock customer services very disappointed. They suggested soaking the whole gun in a warm solution of 50/50 water and vinegar which I did for about an hour and then to tap the trigger and would you believe it now works again. It seems that they seize up with scale. Now very Happy
01May2015 further email from Hozelock "You can make sure it doesn't happen again by squirting some WD40 or similar behind the trigger a couple of times a year just to keep things lubricated. There's a gap at the base of the trigger and one will appear if you depress it between the trigger and the red lock"

I was disappointed. Whilst the body of the spray gun is of substantial metal construction, the trigger is thin plastic and has broken after very little use - not strong enough for the job.
