Light rays which are reflected become polarized. Polarizing filters are used to select which light rays enter your camera lens. They can remove unwanted reflections from non-metallic surfaces such as water or glass and also saturate colours providing better contrast. The effect can be seen through the viewfinder and changed by rotating the filter. The filter factor varies according to how the filter is rotated and its orientation to the sun. They also enable colors to become more saturated and appear clearer, with better contrast. This effect is often used to increase the contrast and saturation in blue skies and white clouds. HOYA's polarizing filters do not affect the overall colour balance of a shot.
The Hoya HD Circular Polarizing filter features hardened optical glass that has 4 times the breaking strength in ANSI standardised testing (ANSI Z80.3 : 2001) where steel balls of varying sizes and weights were dropped from a height of 50 inches onto the glass.
High Transparency Polarizing Film - This polarizing film is the same as that used in the latest high definition LCD TV screens. It has 25% higher light transmission than standard polarizing film used in current photographic filters.
Hardened 8 Layer Waterproof, Scratch & Stain Resistant Multi-Coating - Newly developed industry leading 8-layer multi-coating results in an average light transmission rate of 99.35% between 400 and 700nm (visible spectrum). These coatings greatly reduce reflections off the surface of the glass allowing you to capture more light in your photos. As with all HOYA multi-coatings, HD HMC coatings are applied in a furnace at high heat, bonding the coating to the surface of the glass. This process is called "hard coating" and it is far more durable than other coating techniques. The chemistry of the top layer is formulated not just to be more durable but to be resistant to oil stains. This means that finger prints and other oils are much easier to remove.
Great service but got to be careful with this it's ok to get on the camera but sometimes very difficult to removePublished 6 days ago by Christopher A Warran
Delivery was as usual - excellent. Amazon were offering it at the time at a very competitive price (loss leader I think). Read morePublished 1 month ago by Terry J
This is a fantastic filter.
I bought it initially to use with a dash cam and to kill reflections from the windscreen. Read more
I've used Hoya circular polarising filters before and been 100% happy. But, whilst this one works OK, the effects it produces seem less pronounced than I remember. Read morePublished 2 months ago by Wooster
