An array of finely honed talent
Album Description
The Hoxton Thirteen
From the Artist
John Woolrich, Artistic Director of Hoxton New Music Days, writes: This is a snapshot of new British music at the turn of the Millennium. All thirteen pieces were written for the Composers Ensemble, eight at the invitation of Gill Kay for the Brighton Festival. The composers we approached all young, ranging from students to those with established careers were asked to write a five-minute piece for two winds, piano, light percussion and two or three strings. For Hoxton New Music Days in 2000 I programmed the repeat of most of these pieces and added five new ones. No project like this could claim to be comprehensive (fine composers are missing), but my hunch is that some of the most interesting young British composers are here.
