Format:Audio CD
This CD comprises of Ginsberg reading a selection of the poems from Ginsberg's Howl & other poems including an unabridged live recording of Howl.

The sound quality is good, the words are audible and clear though it is by no means a pristine studio reading (hence no 5 stars).

By listening to this you can get a sense of the fervour and energy Ginsberg had about his poetry. This is what the Beat Generation was about and you can hear it rather than try and work it out from the biographies and second hand accounts.

This is good stuff and I'd recommed it to anyone.

A compact and economical selection of Ginsberg's poems, including the title poem Howl.
For Ginsberg fans, nothing to say.
For those who are too young to have lived the 'Beat Generation' but were made curious by the film Howl (directed by Friedman & Epstein), as I was, a fantastic opportunity to dig deeper ..... I saw the film, bought the book and read all the poems, went back and saw the film a second time (having bought the dvd - it is a film which only improves on watching a second time....)
The sort of book for wandering round parks and reading aloud.... or reading slowly and fantasising.... just listening to the rhythm of the words....
Love it or hate it - interesting in any case

Howl 18 Oct 2008
By Spider Monkey HALL OF FAME TOP 50 REVIEWER
Format:Paperback
'Howl' is a short book of poetry, but each poem enclosed hits you with full force and intensity. They open you up to feeling and for that brief moment in time you are completely immersed in the world Ginsberg creates. I'm unaware of the controversy surrounding these poems, but all I can say is that these are some great poems that deserve to be read by a much wider audience. Poetry is a unique and powerful experience (both reading and writing) and this collection is no different. Well worth a look.
