5.0 out of 5 stars The Way 10 Dec 2010
For anybody who is interested in Christianity, this series of 4 DVDs give a very good introduction to Eastern Orthodoxy. Although these DVDs are for small groups...they are still good for individual viewing. I highly recommend these DVDs.

3.0 out of 5 stars an introduction to BYZANTINE orthodoxy. 25 Jan 2011

This is certainly a 3 star product in my view.

An an Orthodox Christian myself, I find that it is a great resource to have on hand when looking into the aspects of Orthodox Theology, and wishing to explain them or have them explained in an academic way. Such contributors as Met. Kallistos Ware are renowned for this. The effort put into it is a blessing upon the Orthodox Church for certain.
It is also good for anyone looking into studying Eastern Orthodoxy, and wanting some introductory lectures to get them started.

The reason I have given this 3 stars, not the 4/5 stars that my last paragraphs would suggest is that it is purely based upon the Byzantine rite, not the Non-Chalcedon Oriental Orthodox Christians, and the speakers do seem to candidly make some negative statements about their Oriental bretheren. Therefore, in my view it loses some credibility and can remind me of the hardline Russians I have ignored in the past. This is a shame, but is an issue that loses the set marks.

I would advise it for personal use, and accompanied by reading, not as a full course for a community unless they are extremely insular about their faith.

5.0 out of 5 stars A catechetical cornucopia worth TEN stars! 16 Aug 2011
By matt - Published on Amazon.com
This is a ten star production! Orthodox Christianity is sadly the best kept secret in the West, and even in its homelands where it is too often thought of as a cultural artifact and not the life-giving Truth of reality. The Way is a fundamental resource aimed at correcting this by giving seekers and teachers a one-stop resource that has thought of everything. When I say everything is thought of, I mean it. A set-up disc has all media needed to promote and run your 12 sessions on the Faith, with the idea that each session starts with a blessing, common meal, followed by a presentation, group discussion and a share-out led by a moderator/teacher, concluding prayer, etc. The first disc has a 52 page pdf of flyers, a menu with the cookbook (fast-friendly), all the handouts that go with the topics, color icons that can be printed off, and much much more, making this a catechetical cornucopia!

The 12 sessions, on 4 discs, center around the key points that seekers or the generally interested would need to consider when approaching the Faith. Each disc comes with printout capabilities of attractive icons correlating to the discussion topics, a very professional student handout that summarizes each sessions points in detail (in fact it is really a small book you could print off, with illustrations), and a 45 minute dvd of a noted theologian delivering the talk. Of course you could mix it up and deliver the talk yourself, if you feel comfortable and confident enough.

Here are the topics of the 12 sessions: The Search for Faith; God the Lover of Mankind; Being Human- Fully Alive; Why did Jesus Come to Us?; Salvation; The Holy Spirit; Isn't God enough? Why the Church?; Divine Liturgy; The Holy Mysteries (Sacraments of the Church); Bible, Prayer and Fasting; Christian Behavior; Heaven on Earth. The speakers are very engaging and you will not be bored at all.

Note that even though this is designed as a group presentation, it would also be an excellent resource for individuals given the lecture format and printouts. Every parish should have this on hand for that reason as well.

Simply put, this is THE BEST multimedia presentation of Christianity for groups that I have ever encountered, in any Christian form. May it reach many hearts and minds!

As an aside, I am struck that the cover art on the box set says "How to Run the Way" when in reality the box set is the whole thing, not just the first how-to disc. So dont be put off or confused.
5.0 out of 5 stars Amazing Set of Lectures 6 Nov 2012

I have watched the twelve lectures once and I have started to watch them again with a friend in order to study them more deeply. I have found the lectures to be informative, precise, and clear in explaining the various aspects of the Orthodox Faith. I am grateful to all who have worked to make these lectures available.
