I know this information has probably been posted elsewhere, but it might be useful for anyone who is having trouble getting Thief I and II working again on newer computers. Copy and paste the following links to Eidos's forums.

This link will help towards getting Thief running on Windows 7:

This link contains detailed technical information on how to get Thief 2 running on a modern computer:

If, like me, you are not that confident with technical stuff there seems to be plenty of people who are willing to help you out with getting Thief running.

Update 2014: If you buy these three games directly from Steam all the latest community patches seem to have been applied and all three of these old Thief games run perfectly on my Windows 7 64-bit gaming PC. Steam's Thief Gold is limited to 800x600 resolution (although there are on-line patches to go super-res, the first Thief Gold game looks fine on my 24" Dell monitor at 800x600). This is easier than adding the patches to this old DVD version:

--- New fan patches have now been released that gets Thief I and II running on modern PCs, just install them and go ---

Thief II

There is now a new fan patch v1.19 for Thief II:The Metal Age (T2_v119.zip) that gets it running fine in hi-res on my quad core 64-bit Windows 7 PC. Just download and apply the patch by copying the unzipped patch files into the Thief II directory, as easy as that. Certainly worth a try and it worked for me.

Thief I

I have also tried the new recommended TFix_1.13.exe patch, and after installing Thief:Dark Project on my 64-bit Windows 7 PC, I was running Thief I on my modern multi-core gaming PC. So try the TFIX solution if interested (again it does everything for you):

Both these patches are apparently for Windows XP as well. Using this patch on the Thief Gold from the DVD listed here, my Thief Gold game ran but I couldn't save (my Steam versions run and save perfectly though).
