Don't waste money on this book. Get something by James Frey, Elizabeth George, Lawrence Block, Carolyn Wheat, Gary Provost, John Gardner (or just about anyone else!); ESPECIALLY GET 'The Art of Creative Writing,' by Lajos Egri. They at least know what they're doing, what they're talking about, & most importantly, THEY OFFER GOOD, SOUND ADVICE for writers & writing!

I read the first 40% of this book in 20 minutes & wish I could get that time back.

At the very beginning of the book, the author says something like, 'this book is not an advertisement for Amazon.com.' He's right - it's an advertisement for his books, which I'm not going to name here for free since I've already spent too much on his ads by buying this book.

The author does not give any information on how to write a book. He describes all his characters; explains how he named them; tells you to use Google, Yahoo & Bing for research; talks about his friends & how they like his books; refers woulld-be writers to 2 grammar books (Strunk; Truss) & wastes a full page on PICTURES of the covers of those 2 grammar books & a few more pages on excerpts from those books. As far as I'm concerned, a good rule of thumb is 'if you don't have anything to say that contributes to the topic, feel free to NOT SAY IT', especially if it takes you 100+ pages & costs $10...
