5.0 out of 5 stars A real pity that this is not available in the USA 4 April 2012
By J. O. Neil - Published on Amazon.com
Hello! This is the best Western miniseries ever created... period. And it's not available in the USA? Hello again, this is a WESTERN MINISERIES set in the UNITED STATES of AMERICA and it gets more acclaim overseas? What sense does that make???? Hello, hello!! People overseas must have better taste! Somewhere, someone should have the original videotapes or film for this series and it needs to be WELL PRESERVED, cherished, digitally restored, digitally remastered and released on DVD at least. Bluray please if it was filmed. This series is James Arness' finest work and it's supporting roles were equally impressive. This series should be shown on prime time television today to show today's viewers what a "real" TV show looks like - brilliantly scripted and well produced. It's time to reintroduce the WESTERN GENRE to today's viewers and just how cheap would it be to capitalize on re-issuing this in the US??? Didn't a remake of True Grit just do exceptionally well in theaters and on DVD? Figure it out TV execs, now is the time to capitalize! What's cheaper? Reissuing this or making another crappy "reality" series??? Duh!!!

5.0 out of 5 stars THe Macahans Season 1 7 April 2011
By Gerard R. Ryan - Published on Amazon.com

This was the first of the great Telly movies. proving great shows with spectactular scenery could be made for the small screen, which today are not so small. The story line follows a pioneer family moving from the developed eastern states westward, following their trials and tribulations along the way. Watching it again, some twenty years after it was made has lost nothing in the enjoyment of the show, even though the picture is not as clear as we are used to today.
