Being new to owning a dog, I have purchased a number of books on dog training. This book is the best book I have seen to date (17th May 2010).
My dog (an 8 month old Black Labrador puppy) and myself are students at a well regarded dog school and have been awarded a Bronze Obedience Award by the British Institute of Professional Dog Trainers (BIPDT).
The book re-enforces what we are and have learned on the course. I believe anybody reading the book and allowing sufficient time and patience will achieve an obedient and well trained dog. It takes time and effort and cannot be learned in a day!
Just be patient, follow each exercise carefully, most dogs I believe have a 10 to 15 minutes attention span so limit your training sessions to frequent short periods. The aim is for the owner to understand how a dog behaves and how the training is fun. Do not force the issue, go at the dog's pace, the author has not set out a timetable for achieving success, some dogs are quicker at picking things up than others, but every dog is trainable.
This is an excellent book, I feel that if I bought this book a few months back I could have saved money on the other training books.
