5.0 out of 5 stars The Worst Singer on The Planet is Happy to Have Found This!! 19 Aug 2014
By Amazon Customer - Published on Amazon.com
Format:Kindle Edition|Verified Purchase
When my husband came across this book, he said I needed to buy it and read it immediately! I guess you could qualify me as one of the worst singers on the planet, and because it's a quick read, I gave it a go. Plus, I liked the happy woman on the cover!

Siv does a great job in first walking you through the basics before prompting you to put his methods into practice. I never thought about recording my voice before...then doing something like this, but I recorded my own singing at the start, and then tried a few of his recommendations. I recorded myself again about 5 minutes after practicing, and I could already tell a difference! I still have a long way to go, but I'll keep practicing tomorrow...and hopefully the next recording will be even better.

The good news so far--his guidance actually seems to work!

How To Sing by Sam Siv is an innovative guide for aspiring singers seeking their niche in entering the wonderful world of vocalizing. Sam was one of many of us who were told they couldn’t sing, and among the small number who persevered and overcame the distractions in realizing their dream. The fact is that everyone can sing, only there are certain steps that one must take in finding their voice and developing it to its full potential. Sam has is broken down to the basic components, and the result is this handy book that newbies don’t want to miss.

Choosing a style is important, as experienced singers can do well in all genres though newcomers do best finding a specific sound to master before going on to other forms. Developing one’s aural skills is essential in singing with accompaniment, and a recorder will tell no lies in helping measure your progress. Breath control will separate the pros from the amateurs, and it is a lifelong practice that develops power and depth. Warming up is just as important when rehearsing, and learning music theory will take you to the next level as far as you want to go. The author has covered all the basis, and if you’re ready to proceed beyond your shower, this is the way to go.

If you’ve been told you can’t carry a tune in a bucket, How To Sing by Sam Siv is where you start to prove them wrong.

5.0 out of 5 stars There is hope for my voice after all! 18 Aug 2014

A friend of mine actually downloaded this book for me as a joke. I do not have the best singing voice, but I am always singing away. I absolutely love to sing despite not being very good at it. When I found this on my cloud reader I didn't realize that my friend was the one responsible and I read through it. I am constantly adding short little informative books on my devices to read. I currently make a living through babysitting and selling items off of eBay, which means that I typically have time to get in a quick read. I was pretty surprised by how much I learned in this eBook. I do not want to give away the great tips and steps that this book holds, but I will share a passage from the book that has stuck with me:

“The next step is to go through all the chapters again and again and to set up a routine of practice that is satisfying for you and allows you to develop and hone your singing voice until you are happy with the results.”

This little passage at the end of the book is what I keep thinking about. I plan on using this book and the different steps to help me create a singing voice that I am happy with. I ended up thanking my friend who was responsible for putting this book on my cloud reader as a joke. I learned a lot and realized that there were quite a bit of things that I was doing wrong when I sing. I never really knew that there were things that you could do that would improve your voice. I always thought that you sounded the way you sounded and that was that. It is nice to know that there is some hope for my singing voice after all.

I highly recommend reading this book if you are interested in some great tips on how to sing. I was not looking for these tips, but I am so glad that I stumbled upon them. I will definitely be recommending this book to some of my friends and family as well. Great read!

5.0 out of 5 stars Perfect for beginning singers! 13 Aug 2014

Sam Siv publishes yet another great eBook--this time on singing! I've been musician for years with the piano and violin, and have always loved a little singing in the shower. Intonation has always been a problem though, and Siv has provided the perfect solution! His tips are helpful and give good results, and my brother is definitely happier with my singing now: at least it's not out of key.

Singing isn't easy, especially if you want to do it well, but Siv's book is just such a great help. He gives detailed information not only on singing in tune but also on breathing, tone, and warmups. His suggestions are thoughtful and definitely work, and are an ideal place to start for a beginner like me. I'm so excited about singing and so happy that I have all the help I need, right from this book!
5.0 out of 5 stars Helped me help myself... 20 Aug 2014

I downloaded this book because my sister's wedding party, excluding me, were all members of a chorale group and had decided to sing the entire wedding and reception. Right...this book helped more than you would believe. I didn't thing you could teach something like singing---you either can or can't, correct? No, not true. Turns out it is a lot like other skills in life that can be improved with hard work and practice. And the author explains this quite well. It's a step-by-step process to learn to make the most of what you already have, and gives you a bit of courage to strive higher. Needless to say, I was still by far the worst voice out of the entire wedding party, but at least I was able to stay reasonably in-tune and laugh at myself while doing it!
