5.0 out of 5 stars Stepping Up Training 24 July 2013
By Al
Format:Kindle Edition|Verified Purchase
I bought this book as my daughter, a middle-distance runner, is thinking about running the london marathon.

I wasn't sure how appropriate this book would be for her but I found a lot of the information invaluable. In particular the sections on a training plan were useful as she needs to change up the distances run and the amount of time spent training.

Also, the section on mental training is extremely useful as the difference in running 800 & 1500 metres and a full marathon can be taxing not only the body, but the mind too.

Recommended.

5.0 out of 5 stars Perfect when considering training for a triathlon 24 July 2013
Format:Kindle Edition|Verified Purchase
I have been sea swimming for just under a year now and am considering training up for a triathlon. By far the biggest block to me doing this was the running part. Having more than my own fair share of mental blocks to get over in this area (never did like cross country running at school) and basically having no idea where to start, this book has given me everything I need to get started, see it though and exceed my targets. As the author has actually gone from no running at all to successfully running a marathon I found learning from that experience invaluable.

5.0 out of 5 stars The Newb's no1 guide to running a marathon 23 July 2013
Format:Kindle Edition|Verified Purchase
A basic, yet very informative view to running a marathon. The author takes the reader through what he did to prepare, and complete, a marathon.
I have ran several 5K events at Parkrun Leeds, and recently completed my first ever 10K. I have signed up for all 4 of Jane Tomlinson's run for life events next year, the Leeds half marathon, and the York Marathon, and will be training for them using the training plan provided.

5.0 out of 5 stars Good practical advice for the real world. 23 July 2013
Format:Kindle Edition|Verified Purchase
This book provided me with the answers I needed, especially on facing my mental block. The book also gave me some good advice on how to keep up the momentum, using social media. This is something I would never have thought about. Now all my family & friends know I am preparing for a marathon there is no backing out!!!

Great book for anybody like myself considering "going the extra mile" well the extra 26 ;)

3.0 out of 5 stars Less a book and more an oversized blog. 13 April 2014
Format:Kindle Edition|Verified Purchase
No issues with the content, all of it reasonable, but little to inspire and it scratches the surface of a number of topics. As someone who has just enrolled for their first marathon I felt a bit 'Meh' as there's nothing I hadn't seen before. Having said that, it's cheaper than buying a running magazine, which seem to rehash the same articles each couple of months, albeit in a slightly different order each time.

It's okay, but could have been far more.
