Book Description

4 Sep 2000 Buffy the Vampire Slayer (Book 17)
A collection of short stories set

during the summer after sophomore

year at Sunnydale High.

When sophomore year ended with Buffy's defeat -- just barely -- of the Master, she headed off to spend the summer with her father in L.A. The theme was R&R, parties, and an occasional shopping spree. But things that go bump in the night don't take vacation. So Buffy's trying desperately to keep a lid on things in L.A. -- and to keep her secret identity from her father.

Meanwhile, back in Sunnydale, trouble keeps popping up in the darnedest places. Giles wants Willow and Xander to have a "normal" summer, so he and Jenny Calendar, whose budding romance is progressing to full bloom, attempt to stave off the forces of darkness sans Slayer and Slayerettes. And Angel, grappling with Buffy's brush with death, must decide: Does he want to be a more permanent member of the Scooby Gang?

Concerts. Picnics. The resurrection of an ancient monster or two. Just your typical fun in the sun.

With contributions from Cameron Dokey, Nancy Holder, Yvonne Navarro, Paul Ruditis, and Michelle West!

At first i wasn't sure whether this book would be any good: six short stories chronicling the adventures of Buffy and the gang throughout their summer vacation following the events of the season one finale.

I was wrong!

The book follows Buffys Adventures in L.A whilst she is living with her dad and does it well. The authors had a lot to take into considereation with continuity, but suceeded, and managed to produce interesting, gripping tales which i found hard to put down!

Meanwhile, in Sunnydale, the rest of the stories concentrate on GIles, Jenny and Angel who are trying to keep all their adventures a secret from Xander and Willow so they can have a quiet summer. They have to face a shapeshifter, an army of zombies, a pack of touring vamps and bury the masters bones!

These stories are about 40 pages each and use imaginitive original ideas. The authors range from the familiar to the new, but all of them impressed me!

I would definately buy this book if you are a fan of the series and you've always wanted to know what happened throughout their summer. I really look forward to volume 2!

4.0 out of 5 stars Evil never sleeps... 22 Sep 2003
Format:Mass Market Paperback
Just because Buffy and co. are on vacation it doesn't mean that the monsters are. This collection of short stories fills the gap between the first and second school year.
All the stories follow the Buffy format incredibly well and are well-written and very interesting.
If you like Buffy, then is book is a must-have

3.0 out of 5 stars Patchy 1 Mar 2001
Format:Mass Market Paperback
This book is a bit patchy in that it is divided up into a series of short stories linked together. Some of those stories are excellent, others are really poor. I'd reccomend buy it but be prepared for a couple of really poor stories interleaved with some really good ones.
