Book Description

31 July 1995 0333639944 978-0333639948 2nd edition
How to Study a Novel has long been established as the one book about the novel that every student of literature at school or university needs to read. In a series of clearly written, eminently practical chapters, John Peck takes the reader through a set of logical steps that show him how to respond to, interpret and develop his own view of a novel and how to present that response in an effective essay. This thoroughly revised and expanded Second Edition has three new chapters taking this process one step further, showing how to make use of the new critical thinking that has swept through literary criticism in recent years.

5.0 out of 5 stars My friend 5 Mar 2013

This book is my companion everywhere.
Peck has answered a lot of questions that I had, when trying to construct an OU assignment. He has explained how to close read and how to develop an essay. He has done so in a very explanatory way. His methods have a foundation upon which he builds on more complicated critical responses.

5.0 out of 5 stars Great study aid 30 April 2009
Format:Paperback
As with the others in the 'How to Study Literature' series, this is a great study aid for A-level students or English Literature undergraduates; this one focuses on the novel, and is accessible, comprehensive and knowledgeable. Highly recommended.
