5.0 out of 5 stars At last! A business book covering all the stuff that other books don't., 24 Aug 2006
By Carolann McGarrity "caro1ann" (Scotland) - See all my reviews

I was well impressed with this book. I have about 5 other business books and none of them tackle the issues that this book does for example learning to let go of an idea you've worked so hard on that isn't actually producing results and using your energy for something more worthwhile. I got a lot of out this book and it's the first one I have ever actually read from start to finish. If you are having some difficulties in your business life, you should definitely read this book!

5.0 out of 5 stars This booked gave me the kick in the pants I needed, 29 April 2009
I read this book in a sitting, found it an accessible and thought-provoking read and reckoned it wouldn't really make a difference. I went back to my desk and started noticing things. Something had changed in me after all. I had become aware of the elements in my business that really were not working and within a week I had sent several dead horses out to pasture, done some serious mucking out and now have a stable of dead certs. This book seeps into your psyche and makes lasting change. I am indebted. It's a wardrobe weed for your business. Just the job.

5.0 out of 5 stars The title makes me laugh every time..., 28 Oct 2008
By Pippa Gardner - See all my reviews
(REAL NAME)
I am a busy entrepreneur and a slow reader so this book is the perfect size and length for both of those afflictions! My first strategy was to read it from cover to cover and while that was a useful start to familiarise myself with the contents, I think that the book's main use is as something to dip into from time to time and reflect upon your findings.

The main thing that I took from `How to stop flogging a dead horse...' was that it gave me increased confidence and assurance to make those tough decisions (whether the horse is dead or there is still the flicker of life if you do things differently? whether you are just going through a hard part of the process of business development or are in fact flogging? when to actually say no and to make sure that you mean it and aren't just looking for the drama?). It helped me de-clutter a number of thoughts that were spinning around my head and also specifically helped me focus on the things that I am good at and what things were the best use of my time & skills.

Freedom and control are integral benefits for the self-employed business owner and this book helps you deal with the burden of responsibility that often comes alongside that. It is now in the bookcase in my office but sitting slightly out from the edge of the shelf to remind me to dip into it and to take the time to stand back and reflect - both when I am struggling with something and it is bothering me but also when things seem to be going fine and well; just as a prompt to make sure!

Also, love the title - makes me laugh every time and I quote it often! Well done.
