1.0 out of 5 stars Yuck., 12 Jan 1999
By A Customer
This book has got to be the worse story line I have ever read. It goes something like this..."I like you!" "No, I like you more!" "No I like YOU more!" "No, I really like you." "No I really, really like you...." on and on and on. It was almost like the author rewrote the same paragraphs over and over and over. A 42 year old woman making over $200,000 goes to Jamica and meets a 20 year old who has got the sexual and verbal style of an older man? Maybe but I doubt it. But again, the story sounded like it was written by a junior high school kid passing notes back and forth to a friend. Don't waste your time!

4.0 out of 5 stars A great feel-good book for ex- 'Exhalers'. A bedtime must!, 20 Aug 1996
By A Customer
'Stella' (as it has come to be known in the 'hood) is not one of the best books I've ever read, nor it is one of the best written. I, for one, can dig the run-ons but for those of you who found them cumbersome, I hope that you did not allow the mechanics of this novel to overshadow its worth. After 'Exhale'-ing for the last few years, Terry McMillan has provided her public with another slice of life from a different flavor of pie. This time around, the protagonist is in search of something unknown but finds something well- known--LOVE. Having to decide between hope and experience, Stella plunges into the blue waters of Jamaica and the heart of a man half her age. This is not a 'How To' book--it is a 'Why Not?' book. I was impressed with the way Terry took a light-hearted approach to a very heavy subject. Whether or not the writing of it was cathartic and whether or not she had difficulty writing it matter very little. How it touches its readers matters greatly. Lighten up, people, and get YOUR groove back. Respectfully, Terri Wilson-Johnson Graduate Student, University of Central Arkansas

This book will change your life, not exactly a rollercoaster ride but an experience of Stella's emotions, worries and encounters that will make one feel refreshed and positive.

5.0 out of 5 stars THE BOMB, ONLY A REAL WOMAN CAN RELATE TO STELLA
I read the book then I seen the movie and felt as if I was stella her self. The way Winston made her feel I can relate because I've been there and done that but, only in Hawaii.
