About "How to Speed Read"

This book will vastly increase the speed at which you read. Within an hour you will be able to at least double, probably triple your reading rate.

This is the second edition of what was a shorter eBook, now containing more ideas on how to read faster and new advice on using multi-step strategies for greater comprehension and retention. This edition offers an altogether more complete presentation of what it means to be an effective reader.

To make sure you get the most value for money possible, I've also included the FREE eBook: "How to Study ". It contains my best advice on time management, goal setting, and how to get the best grades with the least effort. It's advice that also transfers brilliantly well to professionals, the self-employed, and anyone who manages their own projects and/or daily work cycle.

Succinct and to the point, the book really succeeds in teaching very effective techniques to speed reading. On top of this, the author understands the need to comprehend what is being read and provides excellent pointers to get the most out of your books.

Thoroughly recommend you take about half an hour out of your day to read this very informative book.

4.0 out of 5 stars Short and to the point 11 Jan 2013

It took me about 15 minutes to breeze through this simple little book, which was great, because I probably wouldn't have read any more if it were much longer.

It is to the point, just what you want when learning to speed read. The methods are simple, but will require some practice.

Also, speed reading isn't for every book. The author helps you to distinguish which items are meant for it and which aren't.

2.0 out of 5 stars Why a Copy Editor Is Essential 7 Oct 2013
By Larry Cromwell - Published on Amazon.com

I downloaded this Kindle book two hours ago and finished it in one sitting. I am grateful to Mr. Connelly for many new ideas about ways to become a better reader. Readers will find some of these tips and techniques invaluable.

Despite these words of praise, I rated the book at two stars. Why? It was not because the book was self-published, but because the author did not employ a copy editor before publishing. The result is insufficient punctuation to make sense of the author's complete sentences, incomplete sentences, and run-on quasi-sentences. Typos and/or misspellings abound.

If this sloppiness is not offensive to readers, it should be. If this is the future of publishing, we're all in trouble.

3.0 out of 5 stars Just Google 8 Aug 2013

Like everyone said, it's very short, even with it being two books [How-to Speed Read and How-to Study]. I've had sample chapters longer than this book! The sample chapter of this book is only the table of contents.

Which is pretty much all you need because he only briefly spends a couple paragraphs on each.

So his tips to speed read are:
1. Eliminate Sub Vocalization - stop saying every word, even in your head
2. See More, Move Your Eyes Less - stop moving your eyes over every word
3. Grouping - read whole lines at a time
4. Stop Back Tracking - stop re-reading sentences

Bringing it all together is just basically a step-by-step guide to skim read.

The How to Study is even more basic and you can figure it out just from the table of contents.

If you're interested in the topic it's probably something you could easily find with a Google search.

I gave him 3-stars since he did try and put it all together in a nice neat book.

But it was nothing worth keeping for me so I returned; call me cheap, but I'm saving my buck.
