4.0 out of 5 stars Practical Advice, 9 Jul 2005
Whilst I am not a Buddhist and some of the background thinking is a bit more difficult to get in to, this book is well worth reading. It has practical advice which we can all use. One of the main themes is about anger, which we all encounter and I suspect few don't experience in some form. Whether our feelings towards other inconsiderate motorists or friends who let us down etc. The point is it lowers the quality of our own lives (and Buddhists would say future lives as well) and therefore if we can improve our reaction to these situations - all the better.

1.0 out of 5 stars The Four Noble Truths? Not in this repetitive mess. , 21 Sep 2008
By Charles A. Miller (Baltimore, Maryland U.S.A.) - See all my reviews
This book is yet another rehash of the author's previous books (i.e.: Transform Your Live, Introduction to Buddhism, New Meditation Handbook, etc.). Quite literally and word for word, it overlaps the others mentioned. If you've read one book by Gyatso, you've read them all.

With all of this repetition, it would appear Gyatso has little new to add to the Dharma with his ongoing and relentless recycling of the same thoughts. If you really want to know his take on the subject of Buddhism, just buy one of the above named titles as all basically say the same thing.

Additionally, this preachy volume lacks a bibliography for support. If a narrow view of the Dharma is the goal, then trusting in this one author as the sole source of information might be fine. Many seem to be happy with going this route, but a subject is deep as Buddhism is not well served this way.

If someone is genuinely interested in Buddhism, then seek out mainstream authors such as His Holiness The Dalai Lama and his excellent book The Four Noble Truths (also available from Amazon), which unlike Gyato's "new age" and preachy carbon copies, really addresses the topic.
