5.0 out of 5 stars Beautiful and helpful, 24 Jan 2007

This review is from: How to Raise an Amazing Child the Montessori Way (Paperback)
I picked up a copy of How to Raise an Amazing Child - and I must say that it is an amazing book. It is a gem filled with important tips as well as a beautiful piece of art. I find myself leafing though it just to enjoy the photographs and the presentation. I love the practical and helpful ideas throughout, such as ideas on how to create a meaningful birthday celebration, how to encourage and teach helpfulness, and how to set up your child's world to encourage the enjoyment and learning of new skills. This is a worthwhile book for any parent to enjoy and learn from.

5.0 out of 5 stars Montessori for parents, 16 Aug 2010

This review is from: How to Raise an Amazing Child the Montessori Way (Paperback)
This is an excellent reference book for parents, especially (but not only) if they are interested in Montessori.

It gives plenty of background to Montessori's ideas, in easily-digestible bite-size pieces and in clear modern language. The beautiful illustrations help to explain the ideas and concepts.

I should think the sections on making your home child-friendly, creating a loving climate and 'side-stepping' tantrums are especially useful and practical, for ANY parent.

For those parents who DO choose a Montessori education for their child, or who consider doing so, chapter 6 (The Foundations For Learning) outlines high-quality information succinctly and provides a lovely introduction to some of the materials to be found in every good Montessori classroom.

The very last 3-page section gives parents nine things to look for in a good Montessori School. A beautiful, well documented and practical book.

4.0 out of 5 stars Surely Ours is Amazing, 12 April 2009

I bought this glossy, easy to read book for my daughter who has a two year old and expects another soon, but naturally I hoped to brush up my own rusty skills and discard some of the faulty parenting that might explain some glitches that occurred over the years. Seldin explains the Montessori approach persuasively and left room for common-sense and intuition. I now see where we went wrong those years ago was partly that we lacked monumental patience as parents nor had enough room space. But hey now we are grandparents we might well try the excellent play routines in the book. It'll give the kids a laugh.
