Book Description

2 April 2010
The Government is spending more than £5 for every £4 it raises in taxes, racking up hundreds of billions in new debts. The recession has exposed the parlous state of the public finances. Politicians irresponsible borrowing threatens to create a new economic crisis, driven by excessive, wasteful spending. If serious cuts aren t made then Britons face years of tax hikes and economic decline. All the major parties are planning to cut spending but none of them have set out a credible programme to make the tens of billions of cuts needed. In How to cut public spending, the TaxPayers Alliance Britain s independent campaign for lower taxes and better public services presents the most thorough investigation yet of this vital issue and a plan to turn things around. Edited by Matthew Sinclair, their Research Director, it includes a detailed examination of the records of the major parties and sets out a detailed programme of potential cuts and essential reforms to ensure taxpayers get better value for money. Expert authors from around the world set out their experience of what it takes to successfully get a country s public finances in order.

5.0 out of 5 stars Essential Reading For All Voters 30 Oct 2012
Format:Paperback
Regardless of your politics this book is interesting reading, as is the The Plan by Douglas Carswell which is more political than financial.

In essence it is simple - the UK spends more money than we take in tax revenue. This has to stop or we will become bankrupt (like Greece with riots etc). The book lays out how to achieve spending cuts, mainly from areas where current spending is confirmed as not working.

The greatest shame to me is why this book (or something similar) is not being implemented. The politicians are complete chickens, more worried about being voted in again and focus group results, than the real business of responsibly running a country.

The book itself is detailed enough to be engaging and well researched. It lays out the main parties policies (not just the right wing ones!) and gives a breakdown on how to achieve the cuts.

The reviewer who points out it was written by a right-wing buffoon must not of read the book and also must want to see our country bankrupted, which it probably will be because of people like this.

Given the cronic need to cut public expenditure and return the national accounts to solvency George Osborne could do no better than read this book thoroughly and implement many if not all the ideas.
He should also give all his cabinet colleagues a copy.Come to think of it all senior civil servants as well!

1.0 out of 5 stars Pile of rubbish 15 July 2010
By manager
Format:Paperback
Just a pile of badly-written, poorly-edited rubbish by a bunch or swivel-eyed right-wing buffoons. No normal publisher would have taken this books, so the neo-Thatcherites had to pay to get it put into print. Useful for propping up tables and fuelling the fire in winter. But not much else.
