I'm teaching myself the piano and have bought several basic books. This has been the most fun and rewarding so far. It has quickly taught me how to play with confidence and to experiment with chords rather than faithfully playing every note. Playing with any piano music (including fake books) is more enjoyable now as I can use the chord letter alone to create my own musical accompaniment to the melody.

It's written in plain English with lots of cheesy jokes that are quite amusing. Learning piano with it is genuinely fun.

To get the most from it I think you need some basic piano playing ability. So if you're just starting to learn the piano I'd strongly recommend a basic piano course book to partner this one. I found "How to Play Popular Piano in 10 Easy Lessons" by Norman Monath really good when I was a complete beginner.

I'm really enjoying working my way through this book, although i wouldn't recommend it to a complete beginner unless you're also having lessons. Having been classically trained to a moderate level it is giving me a really useful understanding of the construction of chords and how to harmonise a piece of music from just a melody line and chord names. I'm hoping this will lead on to being able to improvise and to play more jazz. A very useful book. My only criticism is the awful 'humour' and perhaps it moves rather too quickly.

This is a very good book for a guitarist to get the best out of a keyboard in a short time. I have played guitar for over 50 years, including skiffle, rock, jazz and formal classical training and so when I sat down at the piano I had some idea of what to do.
This book has helped me to disipline my learning experience and enabled me to get more pleasure from my playing.
It is also of value to anyone without guitar experience because it teaches harmony through the structure of chords.
Well worth the money.
