Practical advice from someone who has learnt the hard way,

This review is from: How (not) to Paint a Locomotive (Hardcover)
From bitter expereince I knew that painting any sort of model was fraught with difficulties but I had no idea where to look for help - until I found this book. I am so glad I found it before starting on my new model
Clearly written, full of the sort of advice that only practice can give. Simple the best text on the subject on the market.

Don't do it that way! Do it this way!,

Although mainly written for users of spray guns and those into large model engineering, I found the book was full of great tips, ideas and to be a very good 'read'. I model in 16mm to the foot, 1/19th scale, and the bulk of the text was relevant. Not a cheap book, but thoroughly recommended for its high quality colour illustrations and ideas.

The ultimate "Idiots guide",
This review is from: How (not) to Paint a Locomotive (Hardcover)
Having just completed a 3 1/2 inch gauge loco I bought this book before starting with the final paint job. I am pleased to say that it was money well spent. Although not a complete novice, as I have had some spraying experience in the motor trade, I found this book to be a great font of knowledge as regards to painting something smaller than a Mondeo bonnet. The author had made almost all the mistakes that it's possible to make, and found ways around them, which meant that I didn't have to thus saving me time and paint. I was able to make a fair job first time. I also have improved my understanding of the pitfalls of painting smaller objects.
For anyone about to paint a model this book should be on your shopping list before you go out and buy the wrong paint, wrong primer, or wrong equipment. For anyone not about to paint a model, its still a dam good read and written in a style that reminds me of "The words and music" as Curly Lawrence would say. The ultimate "Idiots Guide" to painting your model. May I also congratulate the author on his superb model Bongo
