Absolute crap - when was this book written circa 1950? This book reminded me so much of the parody in The Girl's Guide to Hunting & Fishing (Melissa Banks) when the main character reads and adheres to the dating rules in "How to Meet and Marry Mr Right" & ends up scaring the guy off. I think most guys would back off if we behaved in such a fashion - all that rubbish about not offering to pay half on the first date, never calling them & returing their calls, not to chat for too long on the phone, not to sleep with them until date no 6 etc really irritated me. It was also so American and a lot doesn't apply to our culture.

Anyway all this advice was totally alien to me & had I behaved like some ice maiden at the turn of the century & sustained a guy's interest then he would not have been the man for me as he would have been attracted to a persona and not ME. Either that or he would have been one of these dysfunctional Don Juan types who are obsessed with the chase and lose all interest once they've worn you down - and who wants someone like that?

Well anyone out there who is worried about staying single and thinks this book will put them on the road the happy coupledom, take a leaf out of my book, I am now happily married with a baby. The only advice I would take seriously from this book is do not screen potential partners out immediately, ie if there is no chemistry/spark there immediately then don't automatically dismiss it. Most people end up being unwillingly/unhappily single for long periods of time because they have such high expectations that it's impossible for anyone to live up to them. You also need to be aware of your own limitations as a person & accept that for most people you will attract a certain type. So those introverts out there who fantasize about being with the life and soul of the party - get real and ask yourself seriously, would that sort of person be naturally attracted to you? I know, yes opposites do sometimes attract but there has to be some common ground.

This book is great. It is easy to read, but very motivational. And let's face it - one of the hardest things to do if you're looking for a relationship, is to keep looking. This book explodes a lot of the myths about finding 'the right person' - e.g. 'it'll happen when I'm least expecting it', or 'it just isn't romantic to place personal ads'. Nita Tucker tells it like it is - i.e. if you want a relationship, get serious about it, and put as much effort and thinking into how to get one as you would if you were starting a new business or buying a new house. She tackles issues like handling rejection, being open about wanting a relationship rather than just pretending things are 'great' being single...all in a human and humourous way. There are no guarantees in life when it comes to making relatinships - but with this book, the odds in your favour will rise dramatically!

I found this a most enjoyable and useful book. I thought it contained sensible and helpful information without being too starchy. It's very quick to read and motivating. I highly recommend it.
