Review

Praise for More Lives Than One: 'An idiosyncratic blend of her journalistic voice ... With the skills of a writer who understands the proper balance in a novel between issue and narrative. ... This is her best novel ... [and] will find an answering echo in many readers' (Elizabeth Buchan, The Times )

'All the compassion characteristic of her writing in her previous novels and columns. ... This is a humane and perceptive novel' (Woman & Home )

'A good story, crisply and lightly told, that touches on many of teaching's current preoccupations and dilemmas and that grows in depth as it unfolds' (The Times Educational Supplement )

'The kind of book that you race to finish and then think about for a long time afterwards' (The Lady )

'Libby Purves' prose is clean, sharp and in touch with things that matter' (Daily Express )

5.0 out of 5 stars Down at the coal-face of childcare, with humour, 12 Oct 1999
By A Customer
A delightfully refreshing look at the joys of parenthood, and particularly motherhood. Libby Purves picks up where the fun and interesting toddler books leave off, without preaching and with a realistic appraisal of the joys and horrors of 3-8 year-olds. Her chapter on small children's parties alone is a must-read.

5.0 out of 5 stars One Minute Parent ?, 27 April 2004
By Jack Feeney-Author / Analyst (On a Space Orbit - SPACE) - See all my reviews
This is a very funny, well writen book for any PARENT or any HR MANAGER.Many of the pratices of parents are the same as those practiced by HRpeople on live grown-ups (Human Resources). Many of the lessons in thisbook strike a cord of similarity with the 'One Minute Manager' series ofmanagement books and I can't help but think there's a link betweenmanaging problematic children and managing 'scumbag' employees. It's wellworth a read whether you're a parent, about to become a parent or aManager responsible for grown-ups!
