Product Description

Ever since she bit Father Christmas when she was six months old, it has been downhill all the way for Martha Bones. She is horrible to her baby brother Boris and elder sister Sally, and her parents are tearing their hair out. Far away from Earth, Martha s behaviour has come to the attention of the Interstellar Agency whose aim is to make bad children good. Fred, an Interstellar agent with a poor track record, is sent to Earth as Martha s guardian agent. His mission: to make Martha good. However, Martha has other ideas!

This is a great book! I have read previous books by this author (Jessica Haggerthwaite, Sam and the Griswalds)and really enjoyed them so was pleased she had published a new book. My 8 year old daughter read it and thought it was really funny and had a good plot! I read it to my 6 year old daughter and we both found it laugh-out-loud funny.I would definitely recommend it!

This will be satisfying to read to children. I can see it going down very well in the primary classroom. There is lots to talk about... I can imagine lots of philosophical discussions with the children - why is Martha so put out - might children guess that she is jealous of Baby Boris and the fuss made of older sister? Why should she expect people will feel sorry for her? Is this because she has found this a good way to get attention?
I think her Angel has got a tough job - but I hope he wins...
The frustration and annoyance in the voices of parents and family will be well recognised by children. A carthatic laugh will be had by parent. children and teachers reading this I think...
I'm a little sorry that the author has moved more towards magic in sorting out Martha - but who knows maybe science will help her more in the end...How (Not) to Make Bad Children Good
It's fun Emma Barnes!

Naughty kids are always a big hit in our house - audio books of Just William, much-thumbed copies of Horrid Henry, our annual tradition of reading The Best Christmas Pageant Ever. Somehow the antiheroes are just so much more fun. Martha Bones was a successful addition to our bed time story list.
It's the sort of book you can read across a week - ideal for the attention span of my 5 year old daughter and long enough to keep my 9 year old son interested too. Even my 12 year old pinched it for a quick read and thoroughly enjoyed it.
Our favourite bit? When Martha quotes Mum's sanctimonious words back at her, forcing her parents to be as generous to charity as they tell Martha to be. That got proper belly laughs here!
