Product Description

Join Quinn on a hilarious journey of self-discovery and dating. Will she find a beefcake or a rotten apple? Will Quinn find love or sour grapes at the supermarket?

Quinn is a successful journalist who has been so busy trotting the globe looking for stories that she sort of forgot to invest in her private life.

Eventually, she takes on an assignment with a nationally-syndicated travel magazine back in her hometown in the Outer Banks of North Carolina and is able to settle down. The problem is she's lonely. She's too young to be a spinster and too old to pick up a man at a bar, so what is she to
do?

Quinn sets out to find a man in the unlikely setting of the Grocery King Supermarket. She devises crazy plans to find a mate, no matter what it takes.

Cue a whole series of misfortunes as Quinn is mistaken for a prostitute, has the whole world looking for her imaginary dog, and resorts to doing the strangest of things--like fainting in the bakery section--to meet the man of her dreams. And what does she have to show for all this trauma and hard work? Yep, a hapless collection of Mr. Wrong, Mr. Wrong and Mr. WRONG.

Jessica L. Degarmo's 'How To Meet a Guy at the Supermarket' is classic witty romance/ chick lit with a difference - Quinn actually feels like a real person written by a real person. You have probably met her, and she no doubt confused the hell out of you every bit as much as she confused herself.

I loved this book although I'm not normally a chick-lit fan.

Quinn is a journalist who is sick of being thirty something and single. So she starts a mission to find the perfect man at her local supermarket.

We follow Quinn's sometimes melodramatic sometimes cringeworthy behaviour as she sets out to find Mr Right in the produce section and canned goods aisles.

Along the way she dates possessive arrogant Mitch and too good to be true boring Jason. Buoyed up by support from a girlfriend Quinn is determined to find someone at all costs while getting paid to do so after commissioning a column from her boss Adam.

How far can Quinn go and how long will it take her to realise that she actually met her Mr Right on the first day and everyone can see it but her.

Sometimes sad and often hilariously funny Ms DeGarmo tackles the issues of being single and the desperation to which some may go to lose that single status with aplomb. Highly recommended and worth reading more than once.

Feel-Food Factor! 28 Aug 2011

How To Meet A Guy At The Supermarket is not a `how to' guide in the usual sense - it is a crisp, witty and well-written story. Most of all it's a lot of fun. Our heroine, Quinn, early thirties, decides it's time she settled down after years of travelling with her job. She comes up with a plan and enlists the help of her friend, Nickie. The plan involves ensnaring a guy at the local supermarket where Quinn spends a lot of time buying her meals-for-one. What follows is a hilarious run of escapades that don't - shall we say - go quite according to plan, demonstrating the author's skill at comedy. You get the feeling that Jessica Degarmo has spent a lot of time in grocery stores and after reading this I found myself looking at the shopping experience in a whole new light! I can see this is a rom-com with all Quinn's adventures and misadventures.

A copy on my shelf 6 April 2011

Format:Paperback
I seldom read romance these days, usually looking for more serious books. But this one is a thoroughly entertaining read, and I am proud to have a copy on my shelf.
