Review

ââ¬ÅThis is a book I can re-read and still laugh out loud or feel moved. The characterisation is so well achieved that I feel like I know Sue and her family.ââ¬Â --Jan Fortune-~Wood

4.0 out of 5 stars A Great Read 14 Oct 2006
This is a great first novel; it grips you from the opening sentence and just picks you up and carries you along. It follows the break up of a family after the death of a child and while this doesn't sound a particularly promising subject for a comedy, the writer finds humour in the mundane and the minutiae of everyday life.

I really enjoyed it and look forward to her next one.

5.0 out of 5 stars One to watch 9 Sep 2006
Everybody must go out and buy this book! Francesca McMahon is definitely one to watch. In turns tear jerkingly painful and laugh out loud funny, this darkly comic debut will have you on an emotional roller coaster.

I was hooked by the end of the first paragraph and by the end of the first chapter, I felt as though I knew the protagonist, Sue, who likes to read novels when she should be scrubbing the bath. Exquisitely observed with finely drawn characters, this book is a rare treat - a story about 'everywoman' yet anything but dull.

I eagerly await the next one!

5.0 out of 5 stars A fantastic book 16 Aug 2006
By J. Fox
This is the best book that I have read in a long time. The characters are so well written that it feels like I have always known them. I delayed reading the last thirty pages as I didn't want the book to end!

5.0 out of 5 stars This is a must read novel - best of the year! 27 July 2006
I read this book in 2 days and spent the time that I wasn't reading it wondering how the story would unfold.

Totally absorbing, this novel held my attention beyond the final page! Cry while you laugh out loud! A truly insightful and touching story which takes you through a whole catalogue of emotions. Best read of the year by far.

I am hoping that I do not have to wait long for Francesca McMahon's next offering!
