Book Description

3 Jan 2008

How to Market Books, now in its fourth edition, has for many years been the place to turn for professionals in the industry charged with maximizing revenues and minimizing costs. In recent years the selling and marketing of books has come under more and more pressure. The industry has become dominated by the larger chains, by new channels to market, by new players such as supermarkets, and by consumer demand for different product formats. This book provides the answers for the marketer whose job it is to sell and market books in today's increasingly competitive bookselling environment.

Whether you are a marketing or sales director, manager or executive, How to Market Books shows you best-practice ways to maximize marketing ROIs and deliver top-line growth for your publishing company. Written by Alison Baverstock, Senior Lecturer in Publishing Studies at Kingston University, the new edition has been brought right up to date to include: digital and online marketing; professional and STM publishing; leveraging international sales; and low-cost "guerrilla" marketing. Used throughout the industry, the new edition will ensure that the book maintains its well-earned status as "the bible of book marketing".

5.0 out of 5 stars Excellent handbook 5 Jun 2008

Format:Paperback
I used an older edition of this book and have just updating to this new edition. Really valuable - clear and concise information. The stuff on marketing to librarians and email marketing is particularly useful for me. Should be on shelf (or on the desk!) in every publishing company marketing dept.

4.0 out of 5 stars Very good even for the uninitiated 3 Mar 2009
Format:Paperback
I bought this book as it was recommended by my marketing lecturer (I study publishing at Master's level). I had never done anything marketing-related and found this book helpful and pleasant to read.
The writing is neither stuffy nor academic but very informative. Baverstock is also a fairly humorous writer (as humorous as one can be when talking about marketing...).

Recommended by most of my coursemates and lecturers :D

5.0 out of 5 stars Excellent service and the right book 29 Oct 2011
Format:Paperback
"How to Market Books" lives up to the title. Baverstock is the authority on publishing marketing, and this is the "bible" of book marketing texts. The second-hand copy I bought was in such mint condition that it might as well have been new.How to Market Books: The Essential Guide to Maximizing Profit and Exploiting All Channels to Market
