This book has all the basic information you need to make high quality whips from cow-hide and kangaroo hide. Being the work of an Australian whip-maker, you'll find the emphasis on the Australian style of cattle-whip (the stock-whip) rather than the American style (the bull-whip). Some people who are steeped in the American "Indiana Jones", "Catwoman" and "Rawhide" culture may regret the absence of a great deal of bull-whip information ... but don't let that deter you. Not only is a lot of Edward's book applicable to both whip types, but the stock-whip is a superior item anyway. Forget cowboys, think stockmen, and you'll be VERY happy with a 'roo-hide stock-whip! AND THIS BOOK WILL TELL YOU HOW TO MAKE ONE

This is a great book for anyone interested in making a whip. The instructions are clear and precise with good diagrams. In only a couple of weeks I have gone from purchasing the book to finishing my own vegetable tan leather stock whip that cracks beautifully.

This book gets 4 stars because it is very nearly the only book available to show you how to make whips. If there were more available it would only warrant 3 stars. The drawings are clear but a few photos would not have gone amiss. There are a few points where the author assumes you have knowledge about a certain thing but as I am a complete novice this was slightly frustrating. The section about bullwhip construction could also have been longer but there is enough of the basic principles covered in the rest of the book to make up for this. The author does repeat himself a few times also but this is due to the book being updated a few times. The editor should have noticed this however!

For the beginner don't recommended at all. Really hard to understand all the process, especially if you can't understand the drawings.
