A highly effective and enjoyable read.,

Unlike many simmilar titles, this book has a solid grounding in sociological research. The scientific basis of the advice is enlivened by the colourful and entertaining anecdotes and experiences of the author. This is neither too high-brow, or too chatty; Lowndes either has a gifted ghost-writer or is a natural. Most importantly I can report that the advice given in the book is highly effective. After reading it I went out that night and tried out the techniques. Within ten minutes of meeting an attractive women (who I had seen previously but never been confident enough to approach) I had her giggling and blushing and engrossed in conversation. 50 minutes later that women was asking me out on a date. As well as the romantic applications of Lowndes' techniques there are also more general applications for those of us who work in sales and management. The methods described are very manipulative and incredibly insightful. The book will be a great boon to anyone seeking to improve inter-personal interaction let alone get a date for the night.

I am writing a PhD that has a chapter on Interpersonal Dynamics so I was interested that this book by Leil Lowndes used doctoral research for some of its recommendations.The parts on first apporaches, first meetings, first dates, controlling first impressions and body language of couples falling in love was very good. It was also insightful (for example 66% of relationships are initiated by women non-verbally), and that repeated looking/smiling were the most successful strategies for getting a man to initiate a conversation. As the book progressed, however, I got less and less satisfied. Sometimes I got very irritated. She kept apologising for re-inforcing traditional gendered behaviours because "they work" but the problem with her claims is that this book is aimed at making someone fall in love, and not just about initial seduction. The behaviours she describes work only until you want the relationship to last on an equitable basis - what is on offer here is a handbook on seduction, plus recommendations on how to accelerate the end of the relationship once it gets serious. This is not a book about how to stay in love, only attract a lover. For those interested in the latter - see the first 4 chapters of Women Can't Hear What Men Don't Say (Warren Farrell) - the communication skills in those 4 chapters are far better than anything on offer here.

With a title like "How to make anyone fall in love with you" it was always going to be tough to produce the goods, but unfortunately Ms. Lowndes has sunk below even my initial realistic expectations. A big warning is that it reads very American, a bit like a fantasy world full of sit-com characters. All the anecdotal males are Lawyers and the females pretty actresses...real life...sure.It's clear from the start that the author is desperate to add weight to her "theories" about attraction by using pseudo scientific terminology like "colpulatory gaze" and fields of study such as "Pupillometrics". She clings to the now creaking gate of the Standard Social Science Model and loves a Freudian explanation to most things too. This results in a book almost exactly like a dozen other similar type books almost copied chapter for chapter and idea for idea. You will learn nothing here that an ounce of common sense could tell you i.e. have good eye contact with a potential partner and don't slouch. Hardly revelations designed to transform your love life. You will find just about every cliche around about what men and women are like in here, with no real attempt to break from the familiar rut. As both men and women are covered in the same chapters, this leads to a very odd disharmonious flow of language aimed at men then women almost in the same breath. A bit of a cynical ploy to get both men and women to buy the book in my opinion. Overall a very big disappointment, very formulaic, long winded and full of clichés that don't do anything to heal the sad rift that occurs between the sexes. Save your money and buy something else instead, I wish I had!
