5.0 out of 5 stars very good safe mushroom recognition 23 Sep 2009
Format:Paperback
This book is really good - not only covered with a good washable plastic cover for outdoor use, but full of lovely drawings in colour. Much better than photos, as the illustrator can show exactly what you need to look for. Alongside the edible muchrooms, the dangerous ones that look similar are given, and ways to discriminate them. The instructions are so good that as a rank beginner you can confidently identify something you find in a field or woods or even in your garden. The spore patterns are well detailed, and you can follow them easily. There are also recipes for the edible mushrooms. For the poisonous mushrooms symptoms are described, how they affect people.
All in all, this is a wonderful book.

5.0 out of 5 stars The book for hunting edible mushrooms 12 Oct 2009
Format:Paperback
This is the perfect book to help you identify safely which mushrooms are edible and those that are not. The problem with most mushroom books is that mushrooms are classified by spore colour, which makes these books hopeless if you are out in the woods and need to know quickly if the mushroom at your feet is what you think it is. Patrick's book has each edible mushroom, layed out on a page and on the opposite page is all the mushrooms it could be confused with. Brilliant! Happy hunting and eating.
