Biography

There are few artists whose names are synonymous with one instrument and how it's played in service to an entire genre.

Utter the phrase "young blues guitarist" within earshot of anyone with even a cursory knowledge of the modern musical vanguard and the first name they are most likely to respond with will be Kenny Wayne Shepherd. Still barely in his 30s, the Louisiana born axeman and songsmith has… Read more in Amazon's Kenny Wayne Shepherd Store

Well, for Kenny Wayne Shepherd's fans this doesn't contain any surprises, except for how the main man just continues to get better and better. he still has the uncanny knack of combining deep understanding and respect for Blues with modern rock fretwork pyrotechnics. Combine this with Noah Hunt's whiskey smooth vocals and it's a winning mix for hardened fans and a great way to bring on newcomers.

Opening with a Keith Richards-esque riffed Never Lookin' Back, Come On Over rumbles along, but almost gets a little overshadowed with a heavy Yer Blues straight after. Cold, excellent ballad-type while Oh Pretty Woman showcases KWS's awesome combination style. Anywhere The Wind Blows soars while Dark Side Of Love dould almost be a continuation of Oh Prretty Woman. Who's Gonna Catch You Now is a superb, coming down acoustic ballad then things kick-off again with a storming Backwater Blues with Riley Osbourn starting with some honky-tonking New Orleans piano before the guitar comes storming in with an Elmore James riff. Strut is a romping, fun instrumental that would be a throwaway number if it wasn't so infectious. Butterfly is a deceptively rocking track while Cryin Shame has swagger enough to spare. Baby The Rain Must Fall, excellent closing heavy ballad.

Things don't get much better than this; just wish he'd take a cue from the second track, and "Come On Over" and do a tour in the UK.

Triple "A" Rated 8 Aug 2011
By J. M. Green VINE™ VOICE
Format:Audio CD|Amazon Verified Purchase
Well, the USA may well have found itself reduced to an AA+ rating on the world's financial lending markets - but they certainly still have triple A rated guitar driven music coming out of their shores - and "How I Go" is yet another very tasty example indeed! And, while I may well be rather biased in my view of this talented musician, you cannot deny that this latest studio release, while long overdue, still cuts this man way above much of the current crop of blues oriented guitar slingers.
Firing off with a Stones inspired "Never Looking Back", followed in quick succession by "Come On Over" and a good rendition of Lennon's "Yer Blues", KWS states very firmly that he means business before showing his gentler side in "Show Me The Way Back Home" And then we are back on track with "Oh Pretty Woman" driven by an aggressive guitar which easily rivals Gary Moore's version but has the sublime vocals of Noah Hunt to take it a level higher too! But it's the powerful "Heat Of The Sun" that showcases both KWS's guitar and Noah's vocal abilities that is the crowning glory of this album all topped off (at least in this "non-special edition") with the instrumental "Strut"
Truly, there are no bummers within this album (not that I would ever expect any) - so, worth the 7 years wait?? YOU BETCHA! If you're into electric blues or blues oriented, guitar driven rock, then this has to be a MUST for your collection!

Kenny back to his best. Heat of the sun has a real "rip your heart out moment". How does he get that tone?! No weak tracks. Modern blues at its most brilliant.
