Review

The Ripley's-esque illustrations on every page make it all the more enjoyable. This my favorite type of book to recommend to reluctant readers because it will hold everyone's attention.--Linda Baum"Taylor Sunday News Herald" (06/13/2004)

My dad bought this book for me at Christmas in 1992. After reading it constantly for about a year, we moved house and it must have got lost in the transfer - I never saw it again. But still, I remember everything about it.
The book itself tells you how to do almost anything. This may sound ridiculous or impossible, but you've never read the book! From detailed descriptions on how to actually hold a crocodile as strange as it may seem, to how to spell word in sign language, the book encaptures your curiosity and you suddenly become amazed with just how much knowledge you take in!
Last year, I found How To Hold A Crocodile on one of my teacher's bookshelves, and it brought back many memories. I looked through, and even now it is one cool book!
At the moment I may not need to know how to hold a crocodile (more like How To Search For This Book) but this book taught me a lot of things, and if you have one, you're a lucky person!

When I was eight, my dad bought me a copy of the old edition of this book and it utterly captivated me. I would spend days poring over it, trying out the tips and projects in it, whether making dandelion wine or climbing through playing cards. I made my parents promise that if I died, they would make sure that I would be mummified according to the instructions in the book. There was probably no other single item that gave me as much entertainment. Even now, over twenty years later, I enjoy the bizarre and meticulously illustrated trivia in it, and look forward to one day passing it on to my own children. I don't think I'll ever manage to become Pope though.

A brilliant book with so much information for rainy days and knowledge to cure curiosity with. One of my best investments.

Easily the book you must have in any library that will blow the socks of any encyclopedia for sheer useful info, this book is excellent. I've got a really old, semi-hand written version, but it still has it's charm into todays incarnation. Just great.

Seems like a fun book - entertaining to read with lots of useless knowledge. Should be good reading on the loo.

The only drawback is its format - it's quite large with a cardboard binding and looks/feels like a children's book, which is not ideal if you intend to give it is a present to an adult.

The content sways between child and adult content - from how to make a bed to how to mix a martini!
