About the Author

Herbie Henderson lives in London with her delectable husband and her genius dog Harry. With a head packed full of insider knowledge (thanks to her experience as a recruitment consultant) Herbie set about creating this How to Handle. She knew just how slippery and sloppy some of her competitors could be, and how notoriously difficult they were to handle. She also knew that a lot of candidates out there had reached breaking or boiling point with their consultants. So she got to work interrogating competitors, colleagues, candidates and frankly anyone & everyone relevant; toiling tirelessly to unearth the best kept secrets (and some of the lousy consultants regrettably unsavoury practices) so you now you can discover... How to Handle Your Recruitment Consultant... with phenomenal results. (Note: Despite having explored the underbelly of recruitment Herbie would like to state for the record that all the agencies she has ever worked with have impeccable working practices, professional & perfect consultants, brilliant & brainy candidates and delicious & adorable clients!)

5.0 out of 5 stars An invaluable guide for job hunters. Told me everything I was hoping it would. Highly recommended., 27 Feb 2008
Finding a job is a tricky business in itself, but finding the RIGHT job is even tougher. Having a really good recruitment consultant (or consultants) should make your job hunt easier, but often they not only fail (hugely) to make our job hunt easier but in fact make our job searches even tougher by being sloppy and inefficient. This excellent little book plugs the gap left by the other books in this genre: the others deal with CV writing and applications and covering letters, psychometric tests and interview skills, but if you haven't got your consultant doing their job all that sort of misses the point and is somewhat wasted. This book tells the truth about how to deal with recruitment consultants and also tells the truth about what really goes on behind the scenes. Henderson has used insider knowledge and combined it with industry research and hands on experience to create a really useful tool to help you in your job search. On top of that the style is highly engaging, and as you read it you feel as though you're sitting across the table from a really good friend who knows the industry well enough to be able to give you the inside track. Overall a great read and has already proved to be thoroughly useful for me and several of my friends. Highly recommend buying this book if you want to find your ideal job!

5.0 out of 5 stars Excellent. Tells you everything you need to know., 29 Feb 2008
Really excellent book. Had read a v positive review in weekend newspaper which is why I bought it. Am very pleased I did; it covered all the areas I hoped it would plus much much more. Herbie Henderson writes well - she is amusing and engaging, a very nice style. The book doesn't try to be anything it's not, just gets on with dealing what it promises to deal with in the title, and doesn't waste time with filler and waffle (which I personally find some books in this area tend to do). Extremely handy book. It has been incredibly useful to have the inside track on what actually goes on inside recruitment consultancies, and to know how to get them to do what I want. Really great book - and vital for a job search.

5.0 out of 5 stars The insider info is invaluable - I now recommend it to all my graduates and undergraduates, 2 April 2008
By Mrs. S. Denny "Mrs S Denny" (UK) - See all my reviews
(REAL NAME)
Excellent book. As a University tutor students often ask me for advice on job hunting. I am now recommending this book as one of the key books for my students. It is written in an easy to read format, with practical advice and examples that everyone can relate to, and put into practice.

The most useful fact is that it is written by someone who has worked within recruitment and not simply as a careers advisor etc. For years I've been frustrated by books that just don't tackle the real issues even if they are basic and obvious to some people, they are so often overlooked by the undergraduates and graduates I work with and have tried to help. This book tells people why to do certain things and not others, what to write, how to communicate and what to do to stay on top of your job search.

Whenever I talk to my students about job searching I direct them to How to Handle Your Recruitment Consultant. With so many people searching for jobs and with so many of those jobs being handled by recruitment consultants I want my students to have the edge over their competitors and I believe this book gives them that edge.

My own copy is constantly on loan to students and is well worn after just a few weeks of ownership which is high praise indeed when you bear in mind that many of these same students rarely even appear to read to the end of their subjects' reading lists let alone books!
