Product Description

Product Description

Plants are the lungs of the earth: they produce the oxygen that makes life possible, add precious moisture, and filter toxins. Houseplants can perform these essential functions in your home or office with the same efficiency as a rainforest in our biosphere. In research designed to create a breathable environment for a NASA lunar habitat, noted scientist Bill Wolverton discovered that houseplants are the best filters of common pollutants, such as ammonia, formaldehyde and benzene - chemicals released by furniture, carpets, building materials and photocopiers and then trapped by closed ventilation, leading to a host of respiratory and allergic problems now called Sick Building Syndrome. Here Dr Wolverton shows you how to grow 50 plants as accessible and trouble-free as the tulip and Boston fern. He rates each plant for its effectiveness in removing various pollutants. Studies show we spend around 80% of our lives indoors which means good indoor air is vital for good health. How to Grow Fresh Air will show you how to purify the environment that has the most impact on you.

5.0 out of 5 stars Brilliant!!, 12 Jul 2009
By Mrs. A. Hardwick (N.E.England. U.K.) - See all my reviews
(REAL NAME)
I was very pleased to receive this book - it will come in useful for many years. I have severe chemical sensitivities and up to date my house looks like "The Day of the Triffids", with spider plants growing all over the place. Now, thanks to this book, I have many attractive plants, I know how good they are at cleaning the air, and my spider plants are gradually diminishing as I find good homes for them.
A very good buy for anyone interested in taking responsibility for their own health - we should all be more aware of the hidden chemicals in our homes.

Well worth reading if your home or workplace suffers from bad air days. Fascinating information on how plants work and the good effects they can have in an enclosed environment together with detailed advice on buying and looking after the right plants.
