Product Description

Once upon a time fatherhood used to be a simple affair - all you had to do was bring home the bacon and look stern when the children misbehaved. But times have changed, and fatherhood in the 21st century involves a whole lot more. These days, kids don't want mediocre fathers. They want great ones. How to be a Great Dad is your complete guide to being a great dad for your child - from the moment of conception right through to adulthood. Of course, you will still have plenty of ups and down, and you will still make mistakes, but this guide will help ensure that your predominant mode is one of greatness.

Synopsis

D-Day is Birthday - understanding what she's going through. Home together will be a shock - feeding, sleeping and dirty nappies. Dad's role will change through the years - leading, inspiring, educating, protecting and loving. There are four time-frames - 0-5, 6-10, 11-15, 15-20. Making time for fatherhood needs to be understood and implemented. All the basics and more are covered and explained: psychological health, security, self-confidence, discipline, constancy, education, disagreements, sexuality, enpowerment and so much more. Being a great dad - or step-dad - is a process not an end goal. The longer you go on trying, the greater you'll be. And it's your most important job too, because when your children become parents they will have had a good role model that will make them great too.

I have to say that this book was very helpful to me (and my wife!). My wifes sister has a child and I've been babysitting but this book was an excellent guide to what I can expect. We're currently trying for children, here's to enjoying the practice!
