'I have to say I really did love this book! Feeling very motivated and inspired after reading it (a boost most students need at some point during their studies!).' - Iram Satti, English Language & Literature in Education student

'You can tell the author has been a student relatively recently which is brilliant for connecting with the reader. The fact that the advice in the book comes from this different angle is a real plus.' - Seb Knight, Politics & Economics student

5.0 out of 5 stars Excellently written book. 8 Aug 2012
Format:Paperback|Amazon Verified Purchase
I ordered this book hoping to gain an insight on how to become capable of getting first class grades, having read it from cover to cover I am confident that when I return to University I will do just that.
Covered in the book are ways to improve academic performance in coursework and exams (an area I have always found particularly tricky), there is also a large section about how to get your mind and body in the right zone to study as effectively as possible with simple and easy to follow recommendations.
If you are a student wanting to gain that little bit extra from your work, I fully recommend buying this book. It could very easily make the difference between a 2:1 and a first.

5.0 out of 5 stars * * *Insightful* * * 31 Aug 2012

Format:Paperback
The author's writing provides a clear and easy to follow outline towards greater academic achievement. But what really stood out to me was that beyond that, the core principles behind it all can be applied towards living a happier, more productive life in genreal! Definitely recommended!! Whether for yourself or a student you know that could use an extra push towards realizing their potential!

5.0 out of 5 stars Very Worthwhile Read, Thanks Michael! 2 Sep 2012
Format:Paperback|Amazon Verified Purchase
I really liked this book, the advice is useful and most importantly very practical, but the book still has that human aspect to it that makes it entertaining and relatable - Tefula doesn't pretend to be the perfect student, admitting his own faults throughout the book (eg. Sometimes wanting to stay in bed rather than going to lectures!). This makes the idea of getting a first seem much more achievable, as you realise that you don't need to be a robot to implement his strategies. Likewise he puts a lot of emphasis on the need to get balance in all areas of your life at uni, and the fact that you don't need to live in the library and have 0 social life to do well.

Very motivational and encouraging to read, I feel much clearer about what I need to do to get a first now, and much more confident in my ability to actually achieve one.

There are a few reasons why I have rated this book so highly. First and foremost, what I enjoyed most about this book is that it is genuinely insightful and very well written. The author combines his own experiences with well researched pieces of information to give student readers food for thought about how to best apply themselves at University. The information which the author provides (why maths students tend to score higher than average, for example) also helps the student to think long and hard about what to study and how to build a strategy to get the most out of his / her course. This book is very concise and well presented, making it a pleasure to read and at a very reasonable cost, this book is definitely value for money. Lastly, this book is inspiring because the author really does make the reader believe that a First is within reach if s/he applies her/himself correctly.

5.0 out of 5 stars Informative! 11 Aug 2012
By D Z
Format:Paperback|Amazon Verified Purchase
Where a lot of other books would be very time conscious and restrictive, Tefula approaches it with motivation in mind. This book is a holistic approach to uni and a lot of these principles can be applied to every area of life. Definitely recommend this book for those who may struggle with motivation/personal management and feel like they can't get that first without spending every waking moment in the books. The author encourages having a many sources of inspiration to keep the student motivated even when the going gets tough!

1.0 out of 5 stars Doesn't tell you what to do at all 27 Oct 2012
Format:Paperback|Amazon Verified Purchase
This book doesn't what to do academically to get a first at all. It only says basic things such as "get sleep", "plan". I returned this book, it was a waste. No help, only common sense.
There is no help on how to improve your work up to a first.
